Man, where do I even begin? I don’t even do the long social media posts, but I had to.

Ever since I graduated undergrad, I knew two things: I wanted to live in Houston, and I wanted to earn my degree from Thee Texas Southern University.

Originally, the plan was simple—go straight to law school, get my J.D., and be done with school for good. I also swore I’d never become a teacher… and definitely wasn’t joining any fraternity, despite all the lines that tried to recruit me back in undergrad.

But life has a funny way of rerouting you into purpose.

Balancing early mornings and late nights—teaching with everything in me to ensure my students got it, pushing myself to reach Level 4: High Advanced in my first year, while also being inducted into one of the greatest fraternities on Earth, and maintaining a 3.8 GPA in an in-person graduate program for two straight years—was no easy task.

I’ve fallen short in some areas, broken relationships, had to miss out on family monumental events, but I’ve also risen in ways I never imagined, and will continue to do so.

I wear a crown that not many Black men can say they’ve earned—and while life’s battles will always come as the Devil has intended for us, this moment right here?
This one—I’m proud of.
