All summer we avoided this beautiful stack of elm because of the crazy wasps. Once they left, we forklifted the slabs apart to see where they were hiding - and found their mansion. Now who wants a big slab with a cool big hole - sans wasps?😄🐝 taken in The Dee Mill by @thedeemill

Exciting news at Hood River Hardwoods!

We’re proud to introduce our newest local partner — The Dee Mill.

This partnership brings locally sourced, one-of-a-kind lumber from The Dee Mill right here to HRH. From beautiful live-edge slabs to unique boards full of character, these are pieces that deserve to become something special.

Supporting local makers, local mills, and the people who build with their hands is a big part of what we want HRH to be about. We’re excited to give The Dee Mill a place to showcase their lumber and give our community access to even more locally sourced material.

Come by HRH, check out the new Dee Mill display, and see what catches your eye.

Local wood. Local people. Built in the Gorge.

One of our favorite customers snagged this gorgeous cedar mantel chunk for his new home he built for his family here in Parkdale. The flowy front edge is the perfect vibe for their riverfront porch!🙌 taken in The Dee Mill by @thedeemill

Here we are working on one of my favorite parts of the Parkdale build: shaping the timbers that will be woven throughout the project. We sourced a range of materials from the local @thedeemill including 6x6, 6x8, and 8x8 posts, along with several logs over 12 inches in diameter that were rough sawn parallel on two faces.

Preparation includes removing bark, rough sculpting, planing, cutting mortise and tenon joinery, sanding, and routing channels to house concealed lighting.

These timbers will become bold architectural features within the finished home, bringing warmth, texture, and a strong sense of craft to the spaces they inhabit.

I’m grateful for the opportunity to work with these beautiful materials and showcase elements that carry both structure and beauty.
