This past weekend, my family blessed me with the opportunity to drive a stockcar on a NASCAR Superspeedway.

𝑭𝒂𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝑭𝒖𝒆𝒍𝒆𝒅 𝑳𝒆𝒂𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒑 𝑳𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒐𝒏𝒔 𝒇𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑻𝒓𝒂𝒄𝒌

𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘚𝘱𝘰𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳

As a driver I was assigned a 𝘴𝘱𝘰𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳, a vital member of my team positioned high above the track and acting as my “eyes in the sky” via radio, guiding me through traffic, warning of accidents, helping navigate track conditions - crucial for safety. (In a typical race the spotter would also manage fuel and spot passing opportunities and more.)

𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘊𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘨𝘦

An early challenge I experienced during my time on the track was difficulty clearly hearing my spotter (due to hearing loss in my left ear from my days sparring).

“𝘚𝘦𝘦𝘬 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘓𝘖𝘙𝘋 𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘦 𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘣𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥; 𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘰𝘯 𝘩𝘪𝘮 𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘦 𝘩𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘯𝘦𝘢𝘳.”- Isaiah 55:6

𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘙𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘨𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯

And eventually the recognition that there was someone near watching over me (from above) - and it was up to me to choose to seek Him ...

“𝘏𝘦 𝘴𝘢𝘺𝘴, ‘𝘉𝘦 𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘭𝘭, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘐 𝘢𝘮 𝘎𝘰𝘥...’” - Psalm 46:10a

... and for me to be still (relax, let go of my own efforts) in order to be open to truly hearing Him.

And when I did, my spotter’s voice came through clearly ...

“𝙋𝙖𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙤𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙧𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩. 𝙏𝙖𝙠𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙡𝙤𝙬 𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙚. 𝟯 - 𝟮 - 𝟭. 𝘾𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙧.”

“𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘓𝘰𝘳𝘥 𝘪𝘴 𝘯𝘦𝘢𝘳 𝘵𝘰 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘰𝘯 𝘩𝘪𝘮, 𝘵𝘰 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘰𝘯 𝘩𝘪𝘮 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘵𝘩.” - Psalm 145:18

𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗟𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗻𝘀
- Be still
- Seek a higher power (with a better view) and call on Him
- Relax
- Listen
- Don’t rely solely on self, on own efforts
- Trust

Today is 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗕𝘂𝗹𝗹𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗗𝗮𝘆 - October 14, 2026.

And each year Dahlborg HealthCARING Leadership Group (DHLG) and 𝗧𝗕𝗞𝗜𝗗 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗦𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝘀 typically share something special to commemorate this day, create awareness, and help.

Last evening, as my bride and I completed our bible study and then turned our heart and head and soul attention to our devotionals and daily learning from Joe Tye’s brilliant book 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑾𝒊𝒏𝒅 𝒊𝒏 𝒀𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝑺𝒂𝒊𝒍𝒔 - 𝑰𝒏𝒗𝒊𝒔𝒊𝒃𝒍𝒆 𝑭𝒐𝒓𝒄𝒆𝒔 𝑻𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝑺𝒉𝒂𝒑𝒆 𝒀𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒇𝒖𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆, we read his profound message 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗳 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸 𝟵:𝟮𝟯 and were so inspired by the whole and especially by Joe’s point …

Adults and adult decisions (even when good intentioned) are harming our children.

“See that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I tell you that in heaven their angels always see the face of my Father who is in heaven.” - Matthew 18:10

And yet, humbling ourselves before God, we can learn from these mistakes, take corrective actions, and ensure all children are protected, all children are safe, all children know they belong, and know they are loved - always.

Be it on LinkedIn or on X or Instagram or on T-shirts and sweatshirts, tattooed on arms, on motivational posters, and elsewhere, often one sees Saint Paul's quote:

𝘐 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘥𝘰 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 𝘏𝘪𝘮 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘨𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘴 𝘮𝘦 𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘨𝘵𝘩. - Philippians 4:13

... shared within the context of ambition and achievement.

And yet, when we look into the actual context in which Paul was writing this interpretation is not aligned with what Paul sought to communicate, to teach, to inspire within his audience (which we see in Paul's previous comment to this quote):

"... I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want." - Philippians 4:11b-12

... and then and only then does he say, 𝘐 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘥𝘰 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 𝘏𝘪𝘮 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘨𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘴 𝘮𝘦 𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘨𝘵𝘩.

Thus Paul's true message: As a believer we each can endure any trial, loss, or economic hardship (or any blessing) because Jesus Christ provides the internal spiritual strength to remain faithful and content regardless of our circumstances.

And for those of us in healthcare enduring aspects of its brokenness, e.g., ego-centric leadership, financial and political drivers (rather than quality), value-based care rather than values-based care, love and compassion to achieve an ROI, the lack of integrity, and more ...

As well as those of us in healthcare experiencing the goodness within the system, the flames of goodness we must continue to fan, e.g., heart-centered leadership, quality driving decisions, love for love sake, compassion for compassion sake, holistic care, values-based care, high-integrity, and more ...

... this means as believers ...
