Knockout Wings

I had some of the best tenders here on a sunny Sunday. Kindly invited for a tasting, I first got to sample their crispy chicken strips. They’re juicy, lightly battered, and dusted with adjustable spicy powder. The slider was just as tasty, with tangy coleslaw and fluffy buns balancing the richness. The wings didn’t disappoint either: crunchy, tender, and coated in sauces that kept things interesting. Their knockout ranch wasn’t too spicy, the ranch mellowing out the hot sauce nicely. All the chicken is fresh and halal. The space is roomy with some outdoor seating, though I didn’t see a restroom. I’d happily come back for the tenders again.

麻小辣砂锅米线 Hot Hot Rice Noodle 丨Richmond Hill

Richmond Hill ON L4B 3Y7

I dropped by on a lazy afternoon and was pleasantly surprised. Their signature Crispy Pork with Noodle Soup came as a hearty bowl of rice noodles with plenty of customization. I chose the spicy Dongbei-style broth with a touch of sesame paste, which gave it a rich kick. The bowl had a generous mix of meat and veggies, and the noodles were more than enough to fill me up. Service was discreet but attentive, and the washroom was spacious and spotless. A 5% cash discount was a thoughtful bonus. If I’m in the area and craving something quick, satisfying, and flavourful, I’d happily stop by again.

Ever wonder if that “HIGH PROTEIN” label is really worth it? Here’s a simple formula:

Calories ÷ 10 = Target Protein ✅

If the protein is equal or higher, you’ve got a strong protein-to-calorie ratio. Quick math, no nonsense.

Here’s how it looks in real life:

Protein Bar (60g) → 230 calories, target 23g, has 22g ❌
Protein Drink (355ml) → 160 calories, target 16g, has 30g ✅
Protein Powder (39g) → 150 calories, target 15g, has 35g ✅
Chicken Strips (43g) → 100 calories, target 10g, has 5g ❌
Lean Turkey Pepperoni Sticks (30g) → 50 calories, target 5g, has 6g ✅
Chicken Wings (125g) → 220 calories, target 22g, has 20g ❌
Protein Waffles (2 slices) → 180 calories, target 18g, has 10g ❌
Protein Cereal (55g) → 213 calories, target 21.3g, has 5.6g ❌

Now, to be clear: ❌ foods aren’t “bad.” Every product has its place — maybe you just want wings, waffles, or cereal, and that’s totally fine. The key is not being misled by labels. A product can list protein on the front, but without checking the ratio, the numbers don’t tell the full story. This quick formula helps you see which options truly give more protein for the calories when that’s what you’re aiming for.

Tucked inside King Square’s bustling food court, SOI Snacks brings Thai flavours to the table with a creative twist. I had the chance to visit as part of an invited tasting, and here’s what stood out.
The Thai Fried Chicken on Rice was the star. Crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and perfect with their tangy fish sauce vinaigrette. Easily a must-try if you’re dining solo.
For sharing, the two-flavour pizza is a fun option. I tried half Tom Yum seafood, which packed a spicy, aromatic punch, and half Green Curry chicken, which had mellow coconut notes and tender toppings. It’s a unique concept that makes Thai fusion playful and satisfying.
Snacks like the fish meatball skewers were tasty with tamarind sauce, while the variety of drinks (including a less-sweet Thai milk tea) gave nice balance. Dessert sealed the deal. The mango sticky rice came warm, creamy, and beautifully paired with fresh mango.
Friendly service and a wide variety of dishes make SOI Snacks a great stop whether you’re exploring King Square or ordering in.

I came here on my good friend’s recommendation @gtaeatsnmeets, and I’m glad I did! It was one of my best meals this year. As soon as I sat down, I helped myself to hot soup and condiments from the salad bar before diving into plates of thinly sliced meats. The quality was solid across the board, with the standout for me being the #102 Black Pepper Beef Brisket.
Beyond the meats, their sushi game impressed me. Creative rolls like the #602 Gyuyaki Roll and #608 Rice Paper Pepper Salmon Roll gave familiar flavours a fresh twist. For just $1 more, unlimited drinks sealed the deal.
Desserts were just as plentiful, from chrysanthemum jelly to ice creams and shaved ice with toppings. At $31.99 for the lunchtime special, the variety and value are hard to beat.
Highly recommended if you want a spot that delivers both quality and bang for your buck.

I had a surprisingly great time at this BBQ house. The large, open room feels inviting, and the wood touches and props sell an authentic American BBQ vibe. We ordered the Mr. Turner Platter, enough for four. The ribs were the standout—perfectly tender with bold, smoky flavour. I also loved the brisket, served sliced or chopped, and the sausages in two styles: original and jalapeño cheddar. Our server let us sample both; the cheesy one won me over. The vinegar-based slaw was fresh and cut the richness nicely, and the hand-cut fries gave us something to munch on. The cornbread was a bit dry, and the mac and cheese was A-OK. Loved the crunchy pickles and pickled onions—they punch up every bite. Staff were super helpful. Tried all the sauces; favourite was the sweet original, with Nashville hot a close second. They don’t over-sauce, letting the meat shine. Worth the trip.

Great new spot with stylish decor and fun food. They specialize in takoyaki—the Japanese savory octopus cakes. Every item is basically the same takoyaki, just dressed in different toppings. The unagi version features grilled eel and a touch of gold leaf for a luxe vibe, while the mentaiko one is topped with salty fish roe. Each order includes six sizable balls. They’re cooked well, but I missed the red pickles that gave the takoyaki I had in Tokyo an extra kick. I’d bring a date here for the show and some authentic Japanese snacks.

Chewy focaccia meets shawarma pizza goodness 🧀🍗 I walked in for lunch and walked out in a happy carb coma. The beef shawarma sandwich crackled at the edges while juicy beef and parsley pesto danced with tangy pickled onion. Then came the chicken shawarma pizza, thick bread soaking up garlicky toum and sweet pomegranate molasses. Boards of silky hummus and tangy labneh let me mix and match toppings like a kid in a candy shop. Pistachio cream kunafa sealed the deal with crunchy cheese filled layers and sweet rose syrup. Extra garlic dip? Yes please. Bonus points for the halal menu, spotless sink for messy hands, and a server who kept my water full.

🌍 Taste tour on a tray
I walked in curious about the new International Menu Heist and ended up on a mini world trip. Germany showed up first with the Big Rosti, all beef, bacon and a crunchy hash brown. Belgium cooled me down with the sweetest Biscoff swirl, then a spicy Habanero McChicken burned my taste buds but left fast. I still squeezed in pizza bites, nuggets with that dreamy garlic mayo, a teriyaki chicken fix and two McFlurries. Fast service, friendly smiles, zero wait. My tray was empty in minutes and my passport stayed clean.
