My swimwear was made from plastic bottles. That was true until now. My manufacturer announced they no longer will offer recycled polyester for most of the swimwear I sell, They claim the reason is to move to a higher quality fabric. I was surprised as this eco-friendly label was one of their biggest selling points, so I decided to dig into the real WHY behind the change This is what I found, the recycled polyester industry is collapsing in the US and Mexico. There has been a big push for bottle to bottle recycling, moving away from bottle to fabric. This is because a plastic bottle can only be recycled once into a garment, but again and again back into a plastic bottle. I'm not here to tell you recycled polyester is bad and that traditional polyester is good. Recycled polyester is genuinely better requiring less resources and generating less emissions to make. But what I realized is that neither are a guilt free choice, both require resources to produce and neither can be recycled again. Meaning selling something as recycled to remove the guilt of buying it is can be seen as greenwashing. I want to be as transparent as possible with you, and communicate the impact you have when purchasing my products. Consumption is still consumption at the end of the day. What I did and will do going forward - Updated all affected product pages and our sustainability page on my website - I advocate for buying just what you need and do not promote overconsumption - I stand behind this new fabric because it is higher quality and more durable, meaning your divewear will last even longer and need to be replaced less - All products are still made to order, meaning I do not hold or buy inventory that never sells and ends up in a landfill - Each garment comes with a coral promise because I believe your swimwear should make the ocean a better place - Your order still donates 10% to ocean conservation Comment PLASTIC to learn more about this change. by @thedivecompass
2 years ago I was just a girl passionate about diving and protecting the ocean. Fast forward to today, I'm the owner of a scuba diving swimwear business whose mission is to provide high quality swimwear helping women feel more confident and comfortable while diving while giving back to the oceans we love. It has been a journey, and I'm grateful for your support and to have you here as part of the The Dive Compass community.🩵 Let's restore the coral reefs, one coral fragment at a time! 🪸 by @thedivecompass
Most swimwear was never made for movement underwater. It was made for photos, not for real dives. And after years of adjusting bikinis under wetsuits and watching fast fashion fall apart in salt and sun, I knew there had to be a better way. Every piece I design now starts with one question: Does this actually work for divers — and does it respect the ocean we love? Because what we wear in the water should support the experience, not distract from it. For ocean lovers. For divers. For anyone who feels most alive underwater. 💙 Explore the divewear designed differently Follow @thedivecompass by @thedivecompass
This October, $695 has been donated to @livingseas.asia to plant 1,090 corals in Bali 🥰 All thanks to YOU!! I donate 10% of all sales to coral restoration because I believe your swimwear and rash guards you wear diving should make the ocean a better place In total, we’ve planted 4,230 corals and donated $3,920 to ocean conservation. All because you trust me to help make your dive a little more comfortable and a little more fun & colorful. I couldn’t have done this without you, thank you so much for supporting my mission and helping build back coral reefs 💗 by @thedivecompass
The heartbreaking reality is the future is bleak for the state of coral reefs. This past month, it was published that 96% of coral reefs are now considered critically endangered. An entire ecosystem, across the oceans worldwide, collapsing right before our eyes. It's hard to imagine a world where coral reefs don't exist, and I really hope we don't have to. This is one of the biggest reasons why I started this brand, to connect with divers over our love for the ocean and coral reefs and fight for the future we know they deserve. We must do everything in our power to preserve reef ecosystems and invest in conservation and restoration. I support @livingseas.foundation & @livingseas.asia for their amazing coral restoration work they do in Bali, and now expanding to Lombok. Indonesia is at the heart of the coral triangle which means that corals have the best chance at survival here, conditions are at their best, the biodiversity is unmatched compared to the rest of the world, and there is cool ocean currents which help give the corals nutrients and regulate temperatures. I've seen first hand that the donations to Livingseas go to work directly back in the ocean, planting corals. Which gives me complete confidence to say that each order comes with a coral promise, a set number of corals your order will plant on the reefs in Bali all thanks to your purchase. So THANK YOU for supporting coral reefs and THANK YOU for supporting The Dive Compass! by @thedivecompass
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! 🥰 It's your reviews, messages, comments and emails that keep me going and help me not give up on the hard days! by @thedivecompass
I’ve donated 10% of swimwear sales to coral restoration. This means when you purchase from The Dive Compass you directly fund planting corals in Bali. I’ve chosen to donate to @livingseas.asia because I’ve seen first hand the money donated goes directly into the ocean, and doesn’t get lost in a marketing budget. I’ve chosen Bali because Bali is in the heart of the coral triangle, where there is the highest biodiversity of corals on the planet thanks to complex ocean currents in the region. This basically means the corals planted have a high probability of survival since they are planted in an environment with optimal conditions by @thedivecompass
Getting into your wetsuit should be easy. If you want to wear a proper fitting wetsuit on a dive, chances are it is a fight to get it on beforehand. I hate those awkward few minutes when everybody on your dive boat is already suited up waiting for you, but you’re still hopping around like a crazy person trying to get your suit on. Trust me, I’ve been there. That’s why I’m telling you there is a better way. Dive skin sets with matching rash guard and scuba leggings help you slide into your wetsuit and save you the struggle and the awkward wait before the dive Now, when you buy the complete set, I’ll throw in a matching headband, for free! Because I want you to look fabulous in the water and I want you to wear that proper fitting wetsuit and not size up but end up freezing on your dive. ✨Comment MATCH and I’ll send you the link to snag yours by @thedivecompass
