We’re thrilled to invite you to the culminating event of our 2026 artist residency program! Join us as we celebrate the incredible work of Juan Carlos Rodríguez Rivera, who has spent eight transformative weeks creating in Door County’s inspiring landscape.

WK 05/06 / More details about this new body of work which is part of my research titled Becoming Post-Tropical. Becoming Post-Tropical is about cycles of destruction, reconstruction and dispersion using flowers as the primary material. Also, photos from the workshop part 2, monarch butterflies that won’t make it to their destination, and old school cinemas.

The Miller Art Museum is pleased to announce the launch of its 2026 Dome House Al & Mickey Quinlan Artist Residency Program with artist Juan Carlos Rodríguez Rivera, whose whose work explores diasporic identity, ecological vulnerability, and community-rooted storytelling through site-specific installation and design.

The program launchs with an Opening Celebration and Meet the Artist event on Saturday, August 15 from 4 - 6 pm. This event will take place at the Dome House and is free and open to the public. ➡️ Link in bio for more info!

Meet our 2026 Artist in Residence: Juan Carlos Rodríguez Rivera! 🎨🌿

Originally from Cataño, Puerto Rico and now based in Detroit, Juan Carlos joins us this summer as the sixth Dome House Al & Mickey Quinlan Artist in Residence.

During his time here, he’ll create an extensive series of natural prints using pigments extracted from locally sourced flowers and plant materials gathered from the grounds of the Dome House and surrounding area. Working with fragmented flowers, handmade paper, and bio-plastics made from locally sourced water, he aims to produce over 1,000 prints and bio-plastic forms—a “deconstructed garden” within the Dome House’s circular architecture.
