Thanks to The Word on the Street for creating the opportunity to talk with these two guys, and to Eric Alper for moderating things far more excellently than moderate. Michael Rancic’s A Nation of Tinkerers and Rollie Pemberton’s Ways of Listening are both super stimulating and inspiring books. Check them out. Thanks to L for the pics! @torontowots @therewasnosound @cadenceweapon @thatericalper #roughdescription @ecwpress by @thedonpyle

It’s Country Flash at @thebellandbeacon ! Man, those kittens can sing and play. They did a fantastic cover of Karen Dalton’s Something on Your Mind, the only band I’ve heard who could pull that off. Every Monday at The Beacon room. @nicholrobertson @mjbeleven #karendalton @countryflash by @thedonpyle

Forty-one years in between local gigs! Probably not a record but who else has had that kind of gap? @cabaretvoltaireband by @thedonpyle

One day we’ll all be dead boys. RIP to Cheetah Chrome, guitarist in the loudest band I’d ever heard at this point. I shot this summer 1977 at Crash’n’Burn, Toronto. #deadboys #cheetahchrome by @thedonpyle

I’m very pleased to be paired with two of my summer reads for a conversation at Word on the Street in a couple of weeks. Really looking forward to getting into Michael Rancic’s Canadian Electronic Music history investigation, A Nation of Tinkerers. And I just finished Rollie Pemberton’s deeply engaging Ways of Listening. Loved it. He distills many music culture flashpoints in a coherent and insightful way that I really appreciated. The three of us are hosted by moderator Eric Alper. Sunday September 27 at 1:30pm, David Pecaut Square. Free. Lots of really interesting people on the Word on the Street stages this year. Check out their program. @therewasnosound @cadenceweapon @thatericalper @torontowots @ecwpress #michaelrancic #rolliepemberton #ericalper #anationoftinkerers #waysoflistening by @thedonpyle

I went downtown today and as I exited Bay station, I thought hey, I recognize that guy! It’s Don Hewak, in a photo series installation by Leala Hewak! Two of about a dozen. Loved seeing this. @donhewak @lealahewak by @thedonpyle

This is the original scan of a photo I took of Steve Koch that opens the first chapter of Rough Description. Unfortunately it's in black and white in the book. You can see Keith Whittaker in the background, from Steve's time in The Demics. I originally shot this photo on slide film, and then printed from slide on a colour Xerox machine, at Visual Arts Ontario. The colour palette and quality is very distinct from these early colour copiers. Around 1980 or '81. #roughdescription #stevekoch #thedemics by @thedonpyle

just as his beautiful new @ecwpress book, 'Rough Description: Love Letters and Ghost Stories from a Life in Music' is wide-ranging and emotional, a lot of ground was covered when @thedonpyle made his most recent appearance on the Kreative Kontrol podcast for a talk with me, vish, the host and producer of the show.

in this podcast promoting clip, Don talks about his dear friend, collaborator, and @shadowym3n bandmate, the late Dallas Good from @thesadiesofficial by @thedonpyle
