Happy Belated 100th Birthday to the Grandmother of Juneteenth, Ms. @therealopallee ! 👑

Some people witness history. Others make it.

Ms. Opal Lee is living proof that one person’s determination can change the course of a nation.

At 89 years old, she began her symbolic walks advocating for Juneteenth to become a federal holiday. In 2021, she stood alongside President Biden as Juneteenth was officially recognized as a national holiday.

As a Black woman, attorney, and advocate for civil rights, I recognize that the freedoms we enjoy today were secured through the courage, sacrifice, and persistence of those who refused to accept injustice.

Thinking about moving? 🏡📦 Not so fast.

In Texas custody cases, where you can move and where you can establish your child’s primary residence may be two very different things.

Many Texas custody orders include a geographic restriction limiting where the child’s primary residence can be established—sometimes to a particular county, that county and surrounding counties, or another defined area.

So before you sign a new lease, accept that job in another city, or pack up the moving truck, read your custody order first. A relocation that violates the order can land you right back in court.

Depending on your order and circumstances, you may need the other parent’s agreement or a court-approved modification before relocating the child.

📌 The takeaway: Don’t move first and ask questions later. Check the order.

I had the pleasure of visiting the Martin Luther King Jr. Arts Academy this morning!

In light of recent events, we’ve relaunched the National Black Parents Association with a renewed commitment to advocating for, supporting, and investing in children and families.

Thanks to several of our generous donors, we were honored to make a donation to @mlkaadallasisd, the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Arts Academy in South Dallas which serves underserved children in Dallas.

Seeing a school dedicated to developing young people artistically, academically, and unconditionally made this moment even more meaningful.

This is only the beginning. ✊🏾📚
