Weird that it’s been 17 years since I assisted Nathan Brown @deadmediatapes with recording these local bands for release on 8-track. It was a formative experience for me. It was a guerrilla type of operation where we’d lug tape machines to bands practice spaces and capture them in their natural habitat. I became a bit obsessed with the method. Nathan helped me find my first tascam 424 and after he left Little Rock I continued in this tradition of bugging local bands to let me record them in their spaces to varying degrees of success and fidelity. Lots of fond memories and interesting spaces. Some of which no longer exist. Recording The Buttons, Okay and Cinemahurt in the basement at Barton Street. Older Women at Schiller street, King Emeritus in the basement of Lazer Pussy, and Freedom Bureau (formerly haunted pontiacs) in the practice space above vinos and an aborted Shoplift session at my house where my tape machine shit the bed. I lug a milk crate of tapes with me every time I move. Every once in a while when I have a working 424 and six hours to burn I’ll sit on the floor and go through these tapes and time travel for a while. by @thee_new_ad
