Thank you to @gloriaestefan, @emily_estefan, @karenzdc, #MichaelGreif, @dramaturglia, and @pattideldancer for endeavoring to tell this powerful story and realizing it in such a resounding and beautiful way. This music and book continually moves me through and through, and I’m grateful to be helping share this story to audiences every night.

To @alacamoire - thank you for everything you have given me and the music dpt. As not only the music supervisor but foremost a PERSON, you are an inspiration—in your example and your artistry. I am grateful to not only be a thoughtful witness to this example but to also actively collaborate with you throughout this process.

And @cynthiameng - thank you for being such an incredible leader. Your immense talent is matched only by a largesse of spirit—kindness, humor, and humanity that makes this experience and orchestra special. Thank you for being a force of good, on and off the piano!

And thank you to @davidwlai for bringing me onto this project - from the first workshop to now. I am grateful for the trust you have given me with this, and you really brought together a special group of people in this orchestra.

Two weeks since I presented “We Reach Our Hands Heavenwards” to the public at @msm.nyc!

I’m so grateful for the opportunity to present this music, and I want to thank God for giving me the inspiration and power to arrange such a large work for these incredible people.
I want to thank my family for their sacrifice in getting me here and supporting the work that I do.
I want to uplift this band for bringing themselves to this music. I couldn’t do it without you all moving me and bearing witness to this deeply personal project.
And a very special thank you to my lover @_moiraoconnor who not only sang in this project, but who continually inspires me not only as an artist but as a human first and foremost. :)

I’ll be putting out this stuff sooner than later, so keep an eye out! More to come soon.

Saying goodbye to @aliciakeys @hellskitchenbway and the beautiful hands that made it happen ♥️🌆 I’m so blessed for this to be my first Broadway show as a sub musician surrounded by the most incredible people, and I’m going to miss this little platform I’d call home

MEET OUR NEW MEMBERS! Today, say hello to Daniel Basilio-Fernandez, who recently joined #Local802 “because of its commitment to organizing and emboldening working musicians to fight for better working conditions. Solidarity in the workplace and equity in the industry align with my values, and the union has been devoted to these efforts.”

Daniel adds, “I’m excited to be a part of Local 802 because I value being part of a community of musicians who strive for both excellence and equity. Unions are important for musicians because they facilitate collective bargaining to establish minimum working conditions, rather than each musician fending for themselves and risking undercutting fellow colleagues. I value the work being done to establish these conditions as someone who wants to make a living doing music in the present while preparing for the future. A union for musicians is necessary because of the increasingly difficult obstacles that freelance musicians face, such as access to health insurance, paying into a pension, and insuring instruments -- to name a few.”

As a sought-after bassist, pianist, arranger, orchestrator, copyist and music director, Daniel has worked on award-winning productions with @raychewlive, @alacamoire and @cynthiameng and currently subs on and off Broadway. He’s also collaborated with @donnymccaslinmusic , @tonykadleck, @ingridjensenmusic and @jaleelshaw.

Daniel is currently serving as the artistic director of the #FellowshipOfMortalMen, an original large-ensemble project dedicated to sacred music for the modern era.

Daniel tells us, “Although I do a lot of work in theatre, I’m very interested in Afro-Latin and indigenous Mesoamerican music, especially since my background is Dominican and Mexican.”

He adds, “Music is important to me because it connects me to my culture and people while empowering my true self. Music constitutes some of my earliest memories -- in home and at church. Music is something that is uniquely me -- more so than anything else in my life. For this reason, sharing music is something that is personal and rewarding.”
