Back again with my favourite fictions of Summer! Dungeon Crawler Carl 😈 I read my first Matt Dinniman book earlier this year, 2026’s Operation Bounce House which was an absolute blast. I immediately went to see what else he done, & was at first put off by the Lit-RPG element of DCC. Some months later, after wrapping my umpteenth Reacher book, I gave the DCC Audiobook a go and haven’t looked back. It’s an absolute laugh, the video game elements work really well in the story, and Jeff Hays narration is pure perfection. 100% making Dungeon Crawler Carl my whole personality for the forseeable future… 🧟 Resident Evil 🧟‍♀️ Zach Cregger is back, following up from his award winning Weapons, with a wonderful video game adaption. Austin Abram’s ‘Bryan’ is the NPC we never knew we needed; struggling with padlocks, failing at guns & blundering his way towards Racoon City. ⚽️ Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed ⚽️ Honestly don’t know anyone on earth other than @cjimc and myself who watched this show, but it had us hooked from start to finish. Tatiana Maslany stars as a Soccer Mom who gets wrapped up in a world of hit-men, cam-guys and murder as she try’s to clear her name while fighting a custody battle with her Ex. 🕷️ Spider-Man: Brand New Day 🕸️ Tom Holand’s 4th Spider-Man film is the best yet. Bringing the character back to his street level roots; we see his loneliness as a forgotten man, while he continues to fight crime and go toe-to-toe with a certain new mutant threat. 👹The Kaiju Preservation Society 👹 Jamie Gray loses his job as COVID sweeps the nation, finds work as a food delivery driver, then manages to fall into a job looking after Kaiju in an alternate dimension. And that’s just the first chapter. I absolutely loved how quick paces Scalzi’s writing is. He’ll jump locations and hours within a single paragraph, which brings a refreshing pace to the reading. 🐑 The Sheep Detectives 🐑 This is exactly what you’d expect from the Director of The Minons & the Writer of Chernobyl. The Sheep Detectives is your classic whodunnit Murder Mystery, but with CGI sheep. Surprisingly it’s incredibly profound and heartlfelt, but keeps the comedy element throughout. by @theelsewheredept
