Try these instead:

❌ the thing is → ✅ the issue is
❌ this thing → ✅ this factor
❌ the best thing → ✅ the best aspect
❌ one more thing → ✅ one more detail
❌ the main thing → ✅ the key element
❌ a good thing → ✅ a benefit
❌ a bad thing → ✅ a drawback

“The key element is consistency” is sharper than “The main thing is consistency.”

Thing isn’t wrong. It’s just vague.

So ask yourself:

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐞𝐱𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐥𝐲 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠?

Then name it.

Say them aloud.

The difference is tiny — literally a matter of millimetres. But one small change in what your tongue does can change the sound completely.

And if you’re Indian, there’s a good chance nobody ever explained this difference to you.
