Happy 20th Anniversary today to the wonderful and amazingly emotional Friday Night Lights. I can’t remember what I said to everyone when this photo was taken, but it was probably something super profound like “Keep up the great acting! Also, Kyle, you should be Green Lantern!” by @theericgoldman

Shout out to this Six Flags Fright Fest performer, who’s apparently a big fan of a memorable moment from the longer cut of The Exorcist - and able to actually recreate it! #sixflagsfrightfest #frightfest taken in Six Flags Magic Mountain by @theericgoldman

Universal Studios Hollywood has been my neighborhood theme park my entire life, so it’s really freaking cool to finally see their first full scale exterior rollercoaster open today. Here is some very dignified video of me riding the awesome Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift. taken in Universal Studios Hollywood by @theericgoldman

One of the highlights of this year’s excellent Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood’s Halloween Horror Nights is the awesome Terrifier-themed Terror Tram. #hhn #universalhhn #universalstudios taken in Halloween Horror Nights - Hollywood by @theericgoldman

It’s such a great year for Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood! So many highlights, including their fantastic Hellraiser and Sinners houses, and some of their most fun exterior experiences ever, including the Fortnite scare zone and Terrifier Terror Tram. Look forward to revisiting so many of these experiences.

I can’t say enough good things about H.R. Bloodengutz Presents: A Halloween Fright-Tacular at Halloween Horror Nights Orlando! This original concept house was so freaking fun and so up my alley, that while I’m glad I got to see it three times, I’m sad I didn’t get to see it 30 more times. It’s a sequel to an HHN house from 2011, which I didn’t see (that’s the year before I began going annually to HHN Orlando) but that didn’t matter as far as entertainment goes. The gist of it is a former late night B-movie horror host turned killer escapes from prison, takes over the old tv station he worked at, and begins to show old movies, whilst also torturing and killing the prison guards he abducted. The set-up allows for a ton of one or two room B-movie scenarios to play out before you, similar to the two great Slaughter Sinema houses they’ve done. As much as I dug those, I loved this even more thanks to the fun of the host character and because the movie scenarios were so fun, including a tiki-themed horror movie, a black and white monster movie, a mad scientist who invents pumpkin spice, and a disco demon. Amazing stuff. All hail H.R. Bloodengutz! #HHN35

Longtime Halloween Horror Nights Orlando fans know there is some serious lore and mythology attached to the ongoing original characters created for the event since 1991. This year puts a spotlight on two favorites with the super fun Jack & Oddfellow: Chaos & Control house. They did a slanted room! We love when they do that!

More IP houses from this year’s Horror Nights: Really cool to see Sinners brought to life in this manner, with a lot of love and care - and so happy I caught Remmick saying “Sammie!” our second time through. As someone NOT mad with how Stranger Things ended, I was glad to have them back for the one last time (and the Will vs. Demogorgon face off was a great set piece), but the big surprise for me was the Ozzy Osbourne house. Look, I enjoy his music and appreciated his persona but I’m no super fan. Regardless, what an awesome HHN house! So many facets to it with so many great visuals pulled from his career, all backed by his songs. One of this year’s highlights for sure. #HHN35 taken in Halloween Horror Nights - Universal Orlando by @theericgoldman

Two longtime, 1980s-born, horror franchises are represented at HalloweenHorror Nights this year with Evil Dead Burn and Hellraiser.

Though there have been other Evil Dead houses before, I found the Burn one to be particularly creepy and one of this year’s scariest houses overall.

As for Hellraiser, it was awesome to finally have this series at HHN, with a a really cool house culled from the first three movies, filled with exactly the kind of evocative, gross imagery you’d expect and hope for for that title. And hearing Doug Bradley’s voice as Pinhead rules. #HHN35

Lots more to come, but some pics from opening night of Halloween Horror Nights Orlando at both the media kick off event and from out and about the rest of the evening, scare zones included (thanks to @nextgengirl for many of these photos). #HHN35 taken in Halloween Horror Nights - Universal Orlando by @theericgoldman

We had a great time at Hollywood Studios Thursday, which had added several new elements since we were last there. Our priority, naturally, was riding Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets, which is a terrific re-theme of a ride we’ve always loved, now featuring characters we adore (but we miss you too, Aerosmith). The Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After show was very fun, except when Maleficent won the audience vote at the end, because she was cool but Captain Hook was killing it and we cheered huge for him! (Nice to see him as a face character). And the less structured character interactions at Animation Courtyard are so great and I hope they can continue. The kids getting to actually play a game with Chip ‘n’ Dale were having the time of their lives. And of course, when at Hollywood Studios, one simply must eat at the ever-rad Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant and pay a visit to Mr. Serling at the original Tower of Terror.

We then took the Skyliner and a shuttle to get to Disney Springs, where Operation: Get To The Movie Theater Early Enough to Beat the Impending Thunderstorm was a failure and we were DRENCHED. After buying overpriced new socks (the one most needed clothing change given our situation), we had the pleasure of watching the wonderful Coyote vs. Acme. And finally, wrapped up the night with dinner at one of our favorite Walt Disney World restaurants, Frontera Cocina. I asked Universal Studio Hollywood’s Halloween Horror Nights Creative Director John Murdy about Freaky Nikki coming to this year’s event and he explained how the #HHN fans and #Obsession director Curry Barker helped make this late addition happen. #universalhhn by @theericgoldman
