When I was two, my family escaped Iraq to Jordan. It was 3 families stuffed in one pickup truck.

We came to a land as strangers and some Jordanians did not want us there. But all the neighbours, the friends we had, were Palestinians. They welcomed us in their embrace as comrades with the same fate. They knew our pain more than we did.

My mom always spoke of their kindness and chivalry. Their beauty and generosity. There is a home in every Palestinians’ heart. It is because they carry their home with them wherever they go. Being expelled from your land, makes you become the vessel which carries its memories, the smells, the flowers and most importantly, the olive trees.

There is so much to say about their care and love for the olive trees. Every native person can tell you about their connection to their land in the most beautiful ways.

I will never ever forgive their pain.
I will never forgive the governments for what they have allowed to happen for 75+ years.

I will do everything to make sure they remember and make reparations.

One day, we will all understand the flavour of freedom. We will realize it’s the air at sunset after a long play-day outside. We will realize it’s the dampness after rain. We will realize, it tastes the same whether it is the crisp icy air in Calgary or the thick heavy fog of Basrah. Because it’s not the air itself, not the temperature outside or the age we are when we breathe it in, that allows us to taste it. It is how our lungs take it in, how our minds translate it and how our hearts store the memory. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

This photographer was always an inspiration that I looked up to and I dreamed to work with him. I was a fan and follower on IG for a while, when one day, my ❤️, @thagreendragon had told me about him and let me know they are good friends, I had already thought it’s a crazy coincidence. She also told me his amazing story in Calgary. It made me even more inspired! ✨Fate had brought me to this amazing photographer in my new job, when I was asked to do Makeup on beautiful Ayden for a photoshoot with her and her sweet daughters. I couldn’t believe it when I saw him, I was so speechless and awkward but so so happy.

Thank you @therealeluvieracosta for being such an amazing artist and for letting me be a part of your shoot, it was one of the best days of my life and I’m so proud of myself for getting there. I can’t wait to work with you again in the future because I know that’s something I’m reaching for. Your photography speaks so much to me!

Today Marked my last day at Sephora, and with a farewell, I shared a beautiful memory with the sweetest family coworkers that anyone could dream of. I don’t know how else to describe how I felt in our dt store but at (home) 🏡
I felt so included and loved and I’ve gone through different jobs, countries and schools that I felt alienated in when I was younger.

thank you to everyone I worked with for these amazing 4 years that I will always cherish, I’ve learned so much and feel armed going into the world as a makeup artist. I can finally say it without fear or feeling imposter syndrome:
