Brunello Cucinelli (@brunellocucinelli_brand) stops work at 1pm every day for a mandatory 90 minute lunch in Solomeo, the 14th century Umbrian village in Italy he has been restoring since 1985 and where the company is headquartered. Working past 5.30pm is forbidden, and naps after lunch are encouraged. Cucinelli says he takes one himself.

Lunch is prepared each morning by home cooks from Solomeo and served family style. Pasta every day, roast pork or torta al testo with prosciutto and cheese, fruit for dessert, tozzetti with Vin Santo once a week, farro salad or rice for anyone vegetarian.

The bread is local saltless Umbrian loaf, made from flour milled nearby, the oil is pressed from his own olive groves and the wine comes from his vineyard below the village. It‘s the food his grandmother cooked on the family farm.

Cucinelli calls it humanistic capitalism. Staff are paid around 20% above the industry average and the company turned over €1.28 billion last year.

The Muratori family in Emily in Paris season five is based on him, and the 1pm lunch made it into the show.

Happier Grocery in New York, Corner Shop in London and Twelve in Seoul are grocery stores made by fashion people, all three called the Erewhon of their cities.

Happier Grocery on Canal Street came from an ex Marc Jacobs (@marcjacobs) designer. The store sells $120 jackets and $16 charcoal smoothies, and partners with fashion brands like the @nanushka pop-up café.

Corner Shop at 7 Arundel Street is a grocer, baker, café and wine bar from Nick Jones of Soho House (@sohohouse), with interiors by Alex Eagle (@eagletta) and Sophie Hodges under Eagle-Hodges (@eagle.hodges) and chairs by India Mahdavi (@indiamahdavieditions). British Vogue (@britishvogue) has run a café inside it for two London Fashion Weeks, this year with Nike (@nike) doing a deli and Chioma Nnadi doing talks.

Twelve opened at House of Shinsegae Cheongdam in December, identity by 2x4 (@2x4design), the studio behind Prada Mode New York.

Carsten Höller wrote a thirteen point Brutalist Kitchen Manifesto in 2018, then opened Brutalisten in Stockholm four years later with chef Stefan Eriksson. The rules run from one ingredient per dish to a ban on decoration, which leaves out sauces, spices and anything that isn't the ingredient.

Dishes are sorted by how little touches them, from Orthodox Brutalist with nothing added at all down to Semi Brutalist where a second ingredient is allowed.

He also made The Double Club in London with Fondazione Prada, where the Congolese and Western halves were kept apart in menu and music. Before art he was an entomologist studying how insects communicate by smell.

Wild Raspberries, the cookbook Andy Warhol made with interior decorator Suzie Frankfurt in 1959, has a recipe that reads "Contact Trader Vic's and order a 40 pound suckling pig to serve 15. Have Hanley take the Carey Cadillac to the side entrance and receive the pig at exactly 6:45." Another says greengages are "only available in its most tasty form the last three days of June in the northern parts of Wisconsin."

Frankfurt wrote the recipes as a parody of fine dining and the fancy cookbooks people followed to the letter, down to a store-bought sponge cake soaked "for exactly 36 hours." Warhol, then drawing shoe ads for I. Miller, did the illustrations, and his mother, Julia Warhola, wrote out the recipes in calligraphy, spelling mistakes included. Neighborhood kids hand-colored the pages and rabbis on the Lower East Side bound the books. They made 34 copies and sold about 20. A signed original sold at Bonhams in 2021 for $47,812.

The Paris Fashion Week show invitation from Julie Kegels @juliekegels was a red apple from @vanlangenaker_fruit, engraved with the date, time and venue of her Spring/Summer 2027 show.

The Dior @dior show invitation for Jonathan Anderson’s @jonathan.anderson Summer 2027 women’s collection was a pair of 文玩核桃 (collectible walnuts), the kind collectors in China roll in their palm for years as a symbol of long life.

At New York Fashion Week, Zoe Gustavia Anna Whalen @zoegustaviaannawhalen sent her invitations on paper plates tied with a doily and red string, and ended the show by cutting a stone fruit cake for her guests.

During Berlin Art Week, @uy.studio covered the table in its Neukölln studio with a white canvas and served dinner directly onto it, no plates, no cutlery, and a menu built in the spirit of Jackson Pollock. Chef gemello.berlin sent out 3 courses on 3 separate canvases, "plated" or in this case, placed, directly on the cloth in front of the guests, who ate with their hands.

The vegan menu opened with a tricolore Caesar of lettuce, radicchio and chicory with focaccia cubes. The main was 3 variations of nano pizza, served hot alongside homemade pickles and dips. Dessert was vanilla cake crumbled straight onto the cloth with whiskey-poached peaches and raspberry sauce dragged the length of the table.

The table was set by @idangilony, co-founder and CEO of UY Studio, a Berlin fragrance and design studio. The guests that night, through sharing a meal, conversation and a good time, created art together.

Would you eat here?

Lacoste (@lacoste) and The Hoxton (@thehoxtonhotel), which turns 20 this year, put a 7-piece collection on the hotel’s room service menu. The only way to purchase is to book a room and call in for room service.

The collection was designed by Michael McGregor (@themcgregor), a Los Angeles artist known for drawing on hotel notepads, letterheads and restaurant menus, collected into a book in 2024. At Hoxton, the drawings go onto Lacoste polos, graphic tees, hoodies, pyjamas and a bathrobe made for the collaboration, in the brand’s green and white.

McGregor curated the food menu too, from what he usually orders in hotels. A cheeseburger and fries, a French omelette, a club sandwich, a Negroni and a mezcal Negroni, and Champagne in place of dessert.

Vintage Porsches, Mercedes and Alfa Romeos are turning into grazing tables for restaurant openings, cafés, car meets and brands from Tokyo to New York. Fashion is spending heavily on Formula 1, with Louis Vuitton as title partner of this year’s Monaco Grand Prix and Gucci’s name going on the Alpine team from 2027. A parked car and a grazing spread create the same photogenic moment for a fraction of that budget.

For the grand opening of @felice.restaurants in Flatiron, @plantpassenger staged an Italian aperitivo on an Alfa Romeo Giulia Super on the street, photographed by anneliesecjudge.

@ateliercomete made @oysterporsche, a Porsche 911 set up with a table for oysters and wine, for @topit.paris.

At a @wheels_of_nyc car meet on Mulberry Street with @tinyzaps, a Mercedes Turbo Diesel with a @leonsbagelsnyc decal had a spread across its trunk, alongside vintage watches from @staycrispymyfriends and vintage from @ar.ro.ws.

On the Lower East Side, @casetta.ny, the café and wine bar on Hester Street, laid a spread across the hood of a Mercedes convertible with @feelnoen, @dropinsonly, @raegodin and @bykeithmartine.

In Tokyo, @hijoflacko and @troubletokyo, the Japanese car culture platform, posted a sushi dinner laid out on the back of a Porsche 911.

Shelley Horan (@shelley_horan) was photographing people until 2020, when lockdown made that impossible, so she started photographing objects instead. Most of them are food. Two-minute noodles, a kumquat, frozen broccoli, a bottle of tomato sauce, half a box of Tic Tacs.

She calls the series Compositions and lists every object in the title, which gives you titles like Composition 3 (Date Night) With Petroleum Jelly, Menthol Throat Lozenges, Remote Control, Two-Minute Noodles, Earring, Ping Pong Ball, Disposable Razor, Kumquat and Bobby Pin. It showed at Modern Times in Fitzroy in 2022.

Her portfolio runs across fashion, beauty, fragrance and beverage, with brands like @penfolds, @boy__smells, @withprimeskin and @justinhenrybeauty

Luxury mooncake boxes used to compete on the pastry chef. This year Louis Vuitton, Loewe, Gucci and half a dozen more are competing on everything else, until the mooncakes have ended up as the side character in their own gift.

Louis Vuitton (@louisvuitton) sent a Bo Bing set, the Xiamen dice game played at Mid-Autumn for around 300 years, where 6 dice go into a bowl and the rolls win you mooncakes.

Loewe (@loewe) sent a full gardening kit, watering can included, quoting a Spanish proverb about everyone planting a tree in their lifetime.

Gucci (@gucci) sent a Chinese chess set. Dior (@dior) went to toddler level with Baby Dior, cartoon-moulded mooncakes and a child’s cutlery set.

Bottega Veneta (@bottegaveneta) is still doing it through the food, with Jingdezhen kiln-glaze ceramics and mooncakes by the Italian chef Stefano Bacchelli. Saint Laurent (@ysl) went to a mother of pearl box with matching spoons.

Balenciaga (@balenciaga), Burberry (@burberry), The Edition (@editionhotels) and more all sent boxes this year. Which box wins?

Luxury fruit is a growing market. From the US to Japan to China to Thailand, here’s five to add to your holiday wish list.

Oishii (@oishii.berry) grows a Japanese cultivar in a vertical farm in New Jersey, pesticide-free and pollinated by real bees living on site. The $50 box of six is Connoisseur Grade, the top 1% of the harvest.

Sembikiya (千疋屋) has been selling fruit in Tokyo since 1834, mostly as gifts. Kyobashi Sembikiya (京橋千疋屋) lists two muskmelons at ¥43K, about $290, so roughly $145 each. The method is ikkei ikka (一茎一果), one stem one fruit. The vine sets several melons and they cut all but the best one off.

Fresh Del Monte released the Rubyglow pineapple at Melissa’s Produce (@melissasproduce) in Southern California at $395.99 each and it sold out in weeks.

Zengcheng Guahlu lychee (增城挂绿荔枝) is from a 400-year-old tree in Guangdong that yields a few dozen fruit a year. In 2002 a single lychee sold at auction for 555K RMB, about $67k, a Guinness record. A box of six now runs around 480RMB, about $67. In China they call it 荔枝界的爱马仕, the Hermès of lychees.

Kanyao durian (ก้านยาว) comes from the riverside orchards of Nonthaburi, and a single fruit runs $550 to $1.1K.
