April is #sexualassaultawareness month and due to the pandemic, it’s an extremely unsettling time for people who constantly experience sexual assault or have dealt with domestic abuse in the past as apprehension and fear have become the order of the day.

Girls who had school as their only escape from abuse and women who had work/homes of their friends and family members no longer have anywhere to go.

According to CNN, women are using code words at pharmacies to escape domestic violence during lockdown in France. Similarly, abcnews writes that the code system is already in place in Spain. Sexual assault increased by 36% in one week after the lockdown in France and in the UK, calls to the national abuse hotline skyrocketed to 65% this last weekend, reports BBC.

Just because it’s still International Women’s Month.

When Chimamanda Adiche said & wrote about how “we must challenge long-held beliefs and gender stereotypes that perpetuate inequality between men and women” in her 2013 book, “We Should All Be Feminists” it was met with its fair share of controversies as with anything “Feminism”.

But, do you know there is a clear cut difference between being a Feminist & a Misandrist(Man h*ter) or Female Chauvinist- One who thinks one gender is superior.

For me, it all boils down to issues & questions like; Are little girls still forced into early marriages? Are girls still not given equal opportunities to go to school as boys because “after all they will end up in the kitchen”? and most recently, insecurity in gyms that has led to creation & rise of women only workout space(s) which sparked yet another hot debate. Still mind blown that she got 20k sign ups within a short period.🤯 That in itself says a lot.

It’s not your business until someone who matters to you is entangled with someone whose family didn’t go to school due to issues A or B. Just kidding but, think connectivity.

My point is, We Should All be Feminists. Team Equal OPPORTUNITIES.
