PRIMETIME - SPOILER FREE

“I’m Chris Hansen” - words known worldwide as the man who changed television history with his show ‘To Catch a Predator’.

Now, a film has been made on how Chris Hansen (Robert Pattinson) makes history in 2006.

While the real Chris Hansen states this is a false account of his story to stardom - no doubt it will change when the film gains traction for award season.

While the film itself is abit up and down - which is a natural thing for a first time director, its cinematography is on point in this thriller-esq drama.

With Skylar Gisondo being excellent as ‘Decoy Dan’ as well as Merritt Wever as Andie; a fictional producer used as an amalgamation of several producers being ruthless and rating hungry.

Alex Winter plays Conradt - the most famous of the story who is the target of a botched sting, wasn’t in the film as much as anticipated, however Winter excelled in his small role which was different and brave of him to do.

Now to Robert Pattinson who plays Chris Hansen. Well the voice is perfect as well as his performance. To think he caught predators for a living, yet he himself was a sinister, self indulged, greedy creep, Pattinson was completely immersed in the role and was flawless. Pattinson is on a roll with solid performances and flourishes more every time he gets his teeth into something gritty and his role in Primetime is sure to be nominated in award season.

Primetime is one of those films that is a bog standard film that is solid but is propelled by the acting. Without the acting it would be nothing - but with the performances it has, it will go far in awards and rightly so.

Primetime is in UK Cinemas from October 30th. by @thefilmlass

RESIDENT EVIL 2026

Off the back of his successful film ‘Weapons’, Zach Cregger’s brings us his interpretation of the hit game Resident Evil.

The film follows medical courier Bryan (Austin Abrams) who finds himself in a desperate fight for survival against bloodthirsty, mutated creatures.

While the atmosphere and camera techniques are perfect for the film adaptation, the overall tone felt more comedic than horror-esque.

While Austin Abrams was excellent as the bumbling Bryan who has literally been thrown into the fray and knows absolutely nothing about survival, his adrenaline soon kicks in and fights to survive and Abrams is perfectly chosen for the role.

While there are other cast members in the background, they aren’t really anything to write home about; it is more about Bryan and trying to get this organ to its donor as soon as possible which is a simple concept with some mutated creatures thrown in for good measure.

While the ending is explosive with the third act being absolutely brilliant in tension as well as “will Bryan survive?”, the abruptive credits does make you yell wanting more to find out what is actually happening (I guess we can call that a sequel anticipation?).

Resident Evil 2026 is a solid entry to the franchise. It does lean heavily on the tone of the newer games with the dark atmosphere, tense music and camera style but it was a little bit too on the nose of silly at parts (the fans of the game may disagree).
