The FLO Movement aims to help in eradicating period poverty, through education and donations. Period poverty is a global issue affecting women and girls who don’t have access to safe, hygienic sanitary products, and/or who are unable to manage their periods with dignity, sometimes due to community stigma and sanction.

Be apart of the team simply by donating or sharing information.

We stopped by @utechjamaica School of Public Health with @theflomovement to distribute sanitary pads and install one of our new Period Access Points (PAPs)! 🌸 We're excited to bring PAPs to communities across the island to support vulnerable girls and women in accessing essential hygiene products.

Together, we’re making a difference for menstrual health and equity! 💪🏾

It’s World Menopause Day🩷💃🏿🥳‼️ Let’s all remember to always appreciate and respect our strong women as they face many symptoms such as:
1. Hot flashes and night sweats
2. Irregular or absent menstrual periods
3. Mood swings, including irritability and moodiness
4. Sleep disturbances
5. Vaginal dryness and discomfort during intercourse
6. Weight gain
7. Fatigue
8. Reduced libido
9. Cognitive changes, such as memory problems
10. Bone density loss, increasing the risk of osteoporosis.
Menopause is a phase of life when many women find freedom from menstrual cycles, but it's a stark reminder that addressing menstrual poverty is a necessity for those who still experience it.📌📌

📍May is Mental Health month❗🤕

Mental health and menstruation can be interconnected in various ways. While menstruation itself is a natural bodily process, the hormonal fluctuations and physical symptoms associated with the menstrual cycle can affect our mental well-being. Here are a few key connections that people often overlook⬇️⬇️

📌Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS): Many females experience physical & emotional changes in the days leading up to their period. Common symptoms include mood swings, irritability, anxiety, depression, fatigue & changes in appetite. These symptoms can impact mental health and well-being.

📌Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD): PMDD is a severe form of PMS that affects a smaller percentage of women. It involves intense mood swings, irritability & depressive symptoms that significantly impact daily functioning. PMDD symptoms are more severe and debilitating compared to typical PMS symptoms.

📌Hormonal Imbalances: Fluctuations in hormone levels during the menstrual cycle can influence neurotransmitters like serotonin, which plays a role in regulating mood. Changes in hormone levels can contribute to feelings of depression, anxiety or emotional instability.

📌Body Image and Self-esteem: Menstruation is often stigmatized & societal attitudes towards periods influence body image and self-esteem. Negative body image and feelings of shame or embarrassment r/o menstruation can contribute to mental health issues such as anxiety or depression.
Not everyone experiences mental health challenges in relation to menstruation & the severity and manifestation of symptoms can vary among individuals, if you or someone you know is struggling with mental health concerns related to menstruation don't be afraid to consult your healthcare provider for proper assessment, support, and guidance💕 by @theflomovement

Last week Friday the Flo Movement collaborated with Greenpond High School’s Interact Club to host a workshop/project called Flo Control.
A big thank you to Shamala Clarke (Interact advisor) for contacting us as it was truly an amazing experience meeting and interacting with all the beautiful young ladies😊. It was truly our pleasure educating them on Period Poverty and their menstruation🩸 .
We would also like to thank @kiwanisypwja for their kind donations to us that made this day such a success.
It was truly a fun and enjoyable experience that we hope to have again soon😊‼️

🙋‍♀️March is Endometriosis Awareness Month❗❕
Endometriosis is a condition that causes the tissue that normally lines the inside of the uterus to grow outside of the uterus, resulting in period pain and a shorter amount of time in between cycles. Many females may sometimes mistake this for just being unlucky and having long heavy periods and bad cramps. 🤕🤕
Even though menstrual pain is very normal, severe and unbearable pain during menstruation isn't.🙅‍♀️🚫
This is why it is important that we all promote Menstrual Awareness in an effort to inform our women and make them aware of the various health conditions that can be easily mistaken as being just our period.📌📌

📌January is Cervical Cancer Awareness month❗

Menstrual hygiene is vital for the health and well-being of women as poor menstrual hygiene practices are significant risk factors of cervical cancer. There are however many social taboos and beliefs associated with menstruation which leads to the poor understanding of menstruation and lack of knowledge about safe menstrual practices🙇🏾‍♀️🙇🏾‍♂️

As a result, this increases the risk of more females developing cervical cancer each year. It is imperative for each of us to promote Menstrual Hygiene Awareness in an effort to inform our women on the importance of good cervical health📌

Period poverty is a very real challenge in today’s world and it’s devastating to hear of the impact it is having on female’s lives, their ability to be themselves, and their self-esteem. For too many ladies, dealing with their period each month is proving a tough challenge and in 21st century, this shouldn’t be the case. #endthestigma #periodpovertyawareness #periodproperty by @theflomovement
