An experience you can’t miss, Kalai Ruti of Kushtia. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

Kalai ruti (chapati) is a bread made with mashkalai daal also known as black gram/ vigna mungo/ urad or urid bean or black gram dal. This bean is grown in South Asia which has a good amount of protein and Vitamin B and is very popular in Bangladesh, India and Nepal. ⁣⁣
Originally this daal is made into ruti (chapati) and eaten with bhortas and meat, specially for breakfast in Rajshahi, Bangladesh. Kalai ruti is also very popular in Kushtia. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
We wanted a small meal as it was late at night. We finally found this place in college road. Bhortas are the favourite comfort food for Bangladeshis. But with Kalai ruti the bhortas are not mixed as usual. You take the Kalai ruti and mix the bhortas together adding mashed spices, salt to adjust to your taste. The bhorta platter had begun bhorta (eggplant), onions, mashed mustard seeds, mashed green chilli, mashed coriander leaves and mashed red chillies. When you mix everything and eat with the Kalai ruti it’s definitely heaven on earth for a foodie. The Kalai ruti itself is thicker than chapati and tastes different. I love brown bread and different types of breads so it was definitely my thing. We also got duck meat curry which was served smoking hot and with a delicious gravy. The duck meat is cooked for hours so it was very well cooked and it’s a great meat to have during winter. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
You also have an option of mixing the Kalai ruti with rice flour. I tried both and loved both. This is a must try if you are in Kushtia. The people working there are super friendly. The college road itself is a great place to be and if u reach Kushtia late at night and you are wondering were to go for a meal then you should definitely hit this road.⁣

Lychee Mojito/ Lychee rose Mojito.
The season for lychee is so short so it’s best to have fresh lychees and make desserts, drinks and whatever you want to make with this delicious fruit.

Recipe for Lychee Mojito:
In a glass add 8 to 10 lychee, few mint leaves and ice. Here you can use lemon pieces and sugar syrup separate but I made lemonade and used 1/3rd glass lemonade. Now if you have a muddler then use it and muddle everything in the glass to squeeze out the juices from the mint leaves and for the lychee pieces to be a bit smaller and perfectly thawed. Since I didn’t have a muddler I used a blender. Blend everything 3 to 4 times for just 1 to 2 seconds each time. This process will just help to break down the lychee to smaller pieces and get the juices out from the lychee and mint leaves. Now pour this dividing into two separate glasses. Your glass will be filled half way. Now add extra lychee juice and taste to see if you need more lemonade then add a little lemonade. That’s it’s. Garnish with few extra mint leaves.

Tips: If you want the drink to be a little fizzy then add store bought soda water.

For the Rose lychee Mojito do the same process above. Just add 2 tsp rose syrup for flavour and colour and mix well.
Rose syrup recipe:
Wash some rose petals thoroughly and try them.
In a sauce pan add 1 cup water and once the water is heated add 1 cup sugar. Once the sugar is dissolved let it boil in medium heat. Add around 1 and half tbsp dried rose petals and boil for few minutes. Now add 1 to 2 drops of red food colour. Pour it in a jar and add 1 tsp of rose essence. Use this to make the mojito and store the rest.

FLAVOURS OF UZBEKISTAN 🇺🇿

You haven’t really been to Madina until you’ve eaten plov at an Uzbekistani restaurant. Situated in the city’s most legendary mall. Before you even sit down you walk in and can see the kitchen where giant cast-iron kazans cook Uzbekistan’s national dish over wood fire. The steam, the aroma and the fire all makes this delicious dish. We tried the golden rice cooked with carrots and spices and topped with tender lamb meat.
We also got the Kazan Kebab which is slow cooked lamb chops and potatoes. Shashlik is a must try. We tried both beef and chicken kebabs. Juicy screwers grilled over charcoal. Simple and smoky yet so tasty. The baked sesame golden bread is something you cannot miss with the kebabs.

BEST SEAFOOD IN TOWN 🦐✨

Finally tried the new location of Fish & Co and it’s my absolute favourite place to eat whenever I am craving seafood. Whether you want some fried fish, shrimps, grilled platters, seafood pasta and salads you will get everything here.

Starter Platter: The fried appetizer platter is a must try. Fried prawns, squid, fish and fries with a squeeze of fresh lemon, served with two types of sauces. A plate full of ocean goodness waiting just for you.
The Classic Caesar salad with grilled chicken.
Grilled peri peri prawn : Juicy prawns
grilled to absolute perfection served with the sides you want. I love the Paela rice with the prawn and some mashed potato or veggies.
Grilled Calamari : Smoky and creamy grilled Calamari, this is so mouthwatering.
Chicken & Mushroom cream Spaghetti : Creamy and super light pasta packed with flavours. This is a must try.
Prawn Fettuccini with Chilli cream: Juicy seared prawn with chilli cream sauce. It was surprisingly so good.
Mediterranean Grilled salmon in lemon butter sauce. Super light and extremely tasty.
To gulp all these definitely try there Mojitos. Perfectly iced and very refreshing. For dessert you can try the icecreams they have. It’s a huge place with lots of seating. The staff were extremely helpful and takes care of any request you have.

The breakfast scene in the morning in Dhaka is busy. As each and everyone is busy getting ready to work, study and what not, the streets from early in the morning smells like freshly cooked vegetable curry, daal fry, fried egg, parathas and freshly brewed tea. Each vendor has its own story and the regulars know each other very well. They are friendly and welcoming to any new face that joins those shared tables in the busy morning. It’s fun to talk to them while you eat and know each others story. Strangers quickly becomes a family enjoying breakfast in one table.

RAMEN ANYONE?

An amazing dining experience and the rainy season called for some warm ramen. An hidden gem in Gulshan serving a variety of authentic Japanese food. They had fun decor to set the mood and loved how the staffs dressed and greeted us. For starters we got assorted Tempura which had shrimp, chicken, okra, squash and eggplant. Loved it. For sushi we tried the spicy salmon roll. It was really very tasty. Finished it in a blink of an eye. We tried the special shoyu Ramen which had beef & chicken chasu, boiled egg, greens and handmade noodles in a very comforting broth. The shoyu ramen was also great. Smile and tasty. Comes with beef chasu, green onions, handmade noodles and a chicken based broth.

A SECRET BLUE DOOR CAFE

I finally got to explore this beautiful cafe and every corner looks magical. The pizza and pasta I order tasted great. The spinach cheese ravioli was very creamy and tasty and the thin crust pizza was good too. The wedges needed a little more salt. The drinks were average but the presentation and options were great.

THAI DATE NIGHT PLACE IN DHAKA WITH A CITY VIEW.

Craving Thai food hits different when it actually tastes like Thailand. They soft launched and I love Thai cuisine. Honestly I miss proper Thai flavours, and this place really delivered. Located in Gulshan it’s a must visit for all the foodies.

For starters they gave us some complimentary munchies which was really addictive. We ordered the Prawn Tom Yum soup and Spicy grilled chicken salad. If u love Thai salads u will definitely like this one. The highlight for us was definitely the egg fried rice and the Red Curry Chicken and Tamaring Prawn. Tge fried rice is a must try, they use the original Thai sticky rice cooked in fragrant oil. Simple yet delicious. Definitely try the beef or chicken Basil and red curry shrimp or chicken with white rice. These dishes tastes better with white rice. The Red curry chicken was so comforting and my favourite. The Hat Yai Chicken is a street style Thai fried chicken served either two types of sauce and it’s very light yet tasty.
For drinks we ordered the coconut water twice as it was so refreshing. Beautiful ambiance and plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Huge difference in how it looks during day and night time. Both are beautiful. And I must say the service was commendable. Great staffs.

And of course, no Thai meal is complete without mango with sticky rice and coconut icecream. The perfect sweet ending.
