We’ve searched online for the history of The Pope and found almost nothing—and that is exactly the point. Not every part of street dance history was written down, filmed, archived, or made searchable. Some of it lives in people’s bodies, memories, crews, parties, and communities.

In this clip, C-Mack shares The Pope, a dance the Soul Brothers were known for doing. What you see online is not the entire culture, and is not the only archive. There are countless stories still untold, which is why learning directly from the people who lived them matters. Sometimes history survives because someone is still here to show it, name it, and share its story. taken in Calgary, Alberta by @thefoundationsca

Cmack from the Soul Brothers dropping some West Coast knowledge with “The Guess.”
Not just a move — a groove, a feeling, and a piece of the culture.

When training meets intention!

clean execution, deep foundation, and staying true to the essence of hip-hop—no gimmicks, no shortcuts, just the real thing.

This is what happens when the training is real.
This is what happens when authenticity is the standard.
This is what happens when you respect the culture.

We’re proud to be the only studio in Calgary offering true foundational hip-hop training through The Foundations Street Dance Education Program—led by @ziadalymounib

In just three years, the growth we’ve seen in our dancers speaks volumes.

Keep showing up. Keep training. The culture will always recognize real. 🔥

You didn’t make it up.

If you’re teaching something, say where you got it from.
Who taught you? Where did you learn it? What culture or community did it come from?

You didn’t just wake up with that knowledge.
You were taught. You observed. You absorbed. So give credit.
Every time.

This “I’m self-made” energy is tired.
We don’t grow by pretending we invented the blueprint.

If you really respect the craft, name your teachers. Honor your sources.
That’s how you build real legacy. Not ego. by @thefoundationsca

Huge shoutout to our young breakers, Bgirl Kat & Bboy Griffin, for stepping into their first-ever battle and proudly representing the Leap Studios Breaking Team! Under the guidance of @ziadalymounib , they took on the challenge, showcased their skills, and became part of Calgary’s growing street dance community.

And a massive congratulations to Bgirl Kat for securing 1st place at her debut battle in the 10 & Under category at 2 Th Floor Alpha circuit organized by @thebreaksyyc ! We’re beyond proud of both of them for their hard work, dedication, and fearless energy on the floor. This is just the beginning!

At The Foundations we shed light on the importance of reaching out to the OGs and pioneers in the field to learn from them directly, as the moves without the culture and the people behind them don’t make sense and are lacking context and authenticity. We help transform this knowledge into the classroom setting, so teachers can properly teach students to respect and give credit to the OGs and pioneers, while keeping the culture alive. #thefoundations #streetdance #education taken in Canada by @thefoundationsca

March 2023 was iconic as we had the one and only Mr.Wiggles back to teach at Calgary’s top street dance only studio @pulsestudioscalgary and one of the top studios in Calgary @leapstudiosdance

Special thanks goes to @btyrell for being part of the Canadian Street Dance community and always supporting and elevating the Game in Canada.

One of our core values at the Foundations is uniting the community. We bring together different studios and educators to learn from the pioneers of dance, finding innovative ways to enhance the classroom experience. Our mission is to provide high-quality streetdance education to dancers of all ages—kids, teens, and adults. #Community #StreetdanceEducation #thefoundations #HighQualityLearning by @thefoundationsca

The Foundation’s Streetdance curriculum and program isn’t a new idea; it’s been a vision in the making since 2017, growing steadily until it finally came to fruition in 2024. Excited to look back at another amazing workshop with the legendary Buddha Stretch in Calgary back in 2022 as part of spreading the true essence of HipHop! 🙌💥 #thefoundations #Streetdance #BuddhaStretch #CalgaryDance #yyc taken in Calgary, Alberta by @thefoundationsca
