4. Protect the connection - even five unhurried minutes together beats an evening of rushing.
5. Prep the morning tonight - bags and uniform ready, so tomorrow starts calmer.

As we are in early October, here's what this community has made happen:

- We're into the final days of our campaign, and a real step closer to launch.
- We welcomed more Founding Families than ever.
- We moved forward on routes, safety and licensing.
- And we started the conversations that turn a good idea into a real service.

None of it happens without you.

The school day still ends at 3pm. The working day still doesn't. But the bridge is being built, plank by plank, by local families who refuse to accept that parents should do it all alone.

We're not on the road yet. And that's the point of this post.

Because when you're building something that will one day carry the most precious part of someone's world, you don't cut a single corner. You set the standard first.

Here's the standard The Fountain Fleet is being built to:

- Trained, trusted riders, never a rota of strangers.
- Familiar faces, so children get to know and feel comfortable with the person taking them.
- A licensing pathway followed properly with TfL, so we only launch when everything is right.
- Safety designed into every route and every journey from day one.

We'd rather take the time to get this right than rush to be first.

Small steps build big confidence:

- Let them lead the way on a familiar route while you follow.
- Give them a small responsibility, carrying the bag, remembering the turning.
- Talk through 'what would you do if...' so they feel prepared, not scared.
- Celebrate the little wins. Confidence grows on encouragement.

Independence isn't about doing it alone. It's about feeling capable, supported and safe.

✨ Fancy a little grown‑up time?

Come unwind with me at The Base in Barnes for a relaxed evening of slow stitching.

Grab a seat, pour a glass of wine, have a chat, stitch at your own pace and enjoy a few nibbles.

No sewing experience needed, I will guide you through. It is super simple and you will finish with a lovely handmade card made by none other than you :)

Coming solo is pefect. It’s a lovely way to meet new people and do something calming with your hands.

Two small words that don't come close to what I feel right now.

Because of this community, families backing families, we've come further than I dared hope, and we're still going.

I didn't start this to launch a business. I started it because I lived the afternoon juggle myself, and because so many local parents told me they were living it too.

The Fountain Fleet exists to ease that pressure. To be the bridge between the school day ending and the working day carrying on. To give families back time, calm and the confidence that their children are safe and thriving.

Road safety is one of the greatest gifts we give our children, and September, with everyone back on busy morning streets, is the perfect time to practise.

A few simple things that make a real difference:

1. Stop, look, listen - every crossing, every time, no exceptions.
2. Find a safe place to cross - a crossing or a clear stretch, never between parked cars.
3. Make eye contact with drivers before stepping out.
4. Put the device away - eyes and ears on the road.
5. Model it yourself - children copy what we do far more than what we say.

Safety sits at the heart of what we're building. When The Fountain Fleet launches, every rider will be trained and trusted, and good road sense will be part of every journey.

Three years ago, I bought a cargo bike.

My son had just started school, and I was doing what every working parent does: trying to be in two places at once. So I started cycling him, and then the neighbours' children too, across Hammersmith Bridge each day.

What I found wasn't a childcare problem. It was a logistics problem. That two-hour gap between the end of the school day and the end of the working day, exhausting, expensive, and completely unsolved.

I'd spent twenty years in fine jewellery. I took a deliberate pause to work out what mattered. This is what it led to.

The Fountain Fleet is being built to close that gap, warmly, safely, and rooted in community.

We're not on the road yet. We're building it, with local families. And it started on a bridge.
