Kicking off the Halloween rites! 🥁 We had a blast last night opening our concert, The Gloaming, with @katgimon's Air and Fire from the Elements collection. The video shows the final bars of Air, where our singers drifted through the audience, forming a circle around the main hall in @heavenlgbtclub before launching into the primal and rhythmical Fire, accompanied by a shaman drum and side drum. Why can't more classical concerts start like this? by @thefourthchoir
THANK YOU! 🙏 We're still riding on a high from last night's performance of "The Gloaming: Between Worlds" at Heaven and excited to be sharing some stunning photos from the show. This was an ambitious project for the choir musically and in terms of the production and we're so grateful to all our singers, the lighting and stage management team (Kevin & Gusta) and the technicians at @heavenlgbtclub for helping us to bring the vision to life. And of course the biggest thanks to our audience for supporting us last night - it was a treat to perform this for you and we'd love to see you again on 13 December for our Winter extravaganza 🎄 📸 Event photography: Kathleen Holman Conducted by: @jampow99 Cello: Nicholas Holland Devised by: @dredlongpix Directed by: Séamus Rea Sound design: Dan Ross Lighting design: @kevin_murphy_lights Motion graphics: @dinimal Stage Manager: @gusta_matthews_theatre Technician: @ned_siuipys Sound Engineers: Gabriele Ghezzi & Alessandro Boselli by @thefourthchoir

Concert day (and Halloween!) is almost upon us! 😱 It's been an absolute thrill preparing this show and we can't wait to share it with you tomorrow. A transporting and otherworldly ride through the twilight space of The Gloaming with a choir and cello soundtrack: what better way to spend Saturday night in spooky season? Doors are open from 6pm at @heavenlgbtclub: the concert will start at 7 and finish by 9pm so still plenty of time to head to a Halloween party later. Guests are more than welcome to attend in costume 🎃 Don't miss out on this special show! Tickets from: https://www.tickettailor.com/events/thefourthchoir/2402282 by @thefourthchoir
Ghosts, East-End hookups and a famous war poet? Read more about the text of Wilfred Owen's "The Ghost of Shadwell Stair", which we'll be performing on Saturday in a piece set for choir and cello by Alexander Campkin. Performer update: at Saturday's concert, Katherine Jenkinson is no longer able to join us as originally planned, however we are thrilled to be collaborating with cellist Nicholas Holland for the show. Nick is a celebrated chamber musician who has performed with the leading contemporary ensemble the Balanescu Quartet for 22 years and has recorded extensively for TV and film, including The Crown, Emma, Brighton Rock and Dorian Gray. It's been fabulous rehearsing with Nicholas over the past few weeks and we can't wait to share the music with you this Saturday! Do join us if you haven't yet booked: https://www.tickettailor.com/events/thefourthchoir/2402282 by @thefourthchoir
We're enormously excited to be singing the première UK performance of Seven Last Words of Christ by the celebrated Polish contemporary composer @lukaszewski.pawel in next week's concert. The extended work, for choir and cello, sets Christ's final words in an emotionally charged and immersive sound world, layered with dissonance and dialogue between the instrument and vocal lines. The piece was first performed in Katowice in 2019 by Camerata Silesia. Łukaszewski is one of Poland's leading representatives of sacred and choral music and has been performed and recorded by many of the UK's leading choral ensembles, including Tenebrae, Polyphony, The Holst Singers and the BBC Singers. Don't miss this incredibly moving work in our concert next Saturday! Photo credit: Piotr Dłubak by @thefourthchoir

Dies Irae: one of the most extensively quoted melodies in classical and pop music, musicals and films that instantly conveys a sense of dread and horror 😬 Which other pieces do you know that feature this sequence? Our upcoming Halloween concert will also thread this piece through the evening in multiple forms, from the OG Gregorian chant to a contemporary reworking. Do grab a ticket and join us at @heavenlgbtclub on Halloween! 🎃 by @thefourthchoir
