Happy National Buy a Book Day! 📖🌿 This is one of my favorite traditions every year. I nearly missed it but was so glad to continue the legacy 🙂‍↕️ I usually go in without a real plan other than “buy a book” and I was super excited to find a copy of “All The Queen’s Curses” at my local B&N 🤭 I spotted this one on Instagram a few weeks ago and am looking forward to diving in 👀 by @thefreckledwriter

And just like that, Space Girl Summer 2026 is over. 💫 The past three months have been so much fun for me. And I have all of you to thank for joining me and cheering us Space Girls on in our galactic adventures. You guys are what makes Space Girl Summer so special for me. 🥹🫶 Never forget you are made by the One who created all the stars in the sky, who spoke the galaxies into being, and who placed you exactly where you are for exactly His purposes. It’s been a while since I’ve introduced myself and the end of one season melting into the next felt like a perfect time to do it. 💫

Hi, I’m K.J. and I write vibrant stories in the dark and search the skies for stars. ✨

I’m a poet, an author, and a girl who loves Jesus very much. I had the absolute honor to publish 7 poems beside 16 other authors in our pocket-sized space anthology “Unleash the Cosmos.” I am the creator of Space Girl Summer and the coinciding creative guided journal. Right now, I am concept editing Project BINGO - a YA thriller set in the 70s - and dabbling in a few other secret projects with vibrant aesthetics and characters who are still brave in spite of grief that I can’t look away from. 💜

My favorite books of all time are Inkheart and The Last Unicorn, and classics like Fahrenheit 451, Hamlet, and The Hobbit have changed my life. I’m a huge Star Wars and Marvel nerd whose brain chemistry changed when she saw Lord of the Rings at 13 years old. 🌙

Stories have saved my life and are one of the most wonderful things God ever created. I am so happy I get to both enjoy and write them. 📖

As we near the end of summer, I hope you can look back and smile. Not just at the fun or lovely moments, but at the hard ones too. I hope you can smile and see how you’ve grown, see how you got through it all. Whether or not this summer was the best of your life, the worst, or somewhere in the middle, you are still here, still shining like a star. May these last few days bring all the wonder, adventure, and hope your space girl heart could wish for. xoxo

One of my new prized possessions is this personalized copy of one of Kathy Gillan Tyers’ Star Wars books. Most of the time, I have authors sign to “KJ” but it felt very important for little me to have her name on it. 🥹🫶 Really excited to dive into this Legends novel.

I rewatched Star Wars Episodes 4-6 for the first time in a long time and I was surprised by the amount of joy I saw on screen. These are movies of celebration and connection in midst of dark times. I never really connected to the OG characters of Luke, Leia, and Han as a kid but I do now 🤎💫

Keep following the Bright Morning Star 💫

One of my favorite names of Jesus is “bright morning star” (Rev 22:16). A fantasy series I read as a kid used this name for a sword and as a metaphor in the story, and ever since then, I’ve been in love with the imagery. It’s impossible to fully understand God but the title seems to encapsulate the beauty and awe we feel when both looking up at the night sky and when thinking about Jesus. Every Space Girl Summer that passes, I love stars more and more, and I fall in love with the Bright Morning Star more and more. Many days, the world feels dark and heavy, seeming to suffocate any light we hope to shine. But Jesus, our Bright and Morning Star will always light our way and our hearts. No dark is too dark for His light. ♥️✨

One of my first reads this summer was Red Star Rebels and it was such a blast!! 🚀 I devoured it in a weekend: lots of twists, action-packed, and just a solidly great time 🙂‍↕️🙌 4.5 stars rounded down 💫

(Because this is marketed as YA, just a quick content note: I think I counted 5 f-bombs, and there were a couple of kiss scenes, but nothing further

Sometimes you just gotta crack out the chalk with the little bro and draw yourself a whole galaxy 🙂‍↕️

This summer, I’ve been struggling to slow down and enjoy, well just about anything. 😅 As the last months of summer wind down, I realize how much I’ve been rushing or pushing through or just plain old not doing the little fun things. Which is ironic because Space Girl Summer has always been my excuse to do just that: be present and be joyful. Even in these last few weeks, I want to be better at that. And chalk really seemed to help 😌

For 5 years, Space Girl Summer has been a delightful blessing, connecting me to so many wonderful friends on the internet. Every post or story update or shared book rec from one of you has brought so much joy to my heart. ✨ This year at Realm Makers, one of my favorite memories was journaling side by side with @oliviagratehouse. During conference downtime, we’d grab coffee and write, or hunker down in the hotel room and chat while I doodled on the cover of my copy. It was so wonderful to watch the different ways we approached the same prompts and the beauty that came from it. 🥹 Yes, almost all summer, we are individual stars roaming the same sky. But for a time, we got to be part of a constellation, creating stories and memories together. And that’s what I love about Space Girl Summer. 💫
