Hello.
This post has been a while in the making, ironically, and after a good chat with @mean_eyed_cat_ncl we had to make sure we got it sorted.

The last few years have seen a huge rise in the amount of AI generated artwork we see in the hospitality and beer industries.

While we’ve been actively avoiding it for a year or so anyway, going forward we will not be sharing, or displaying in the pub, any imagery created using generative AI including brewery pumpclips.

And before we’re drawn into any arguments or claims of snobbery. We know that not everyone has huge marketing budgets, software or even design skills. Damn, my graphic design skills are laughable, you’ve all seen them!

And yes, we’d experimented with using generative functions on posters previously, but we also now know a lot more about the impact AI is having on the creative industries and the world.

We also know though that our friends, staff and customers that work in the creative industries are fearful for their livelihoods and their fear is real and justified.

Below are some of our favourite designers that we’ve worked with or admired from afar, and if you’re an artist or designer feel free to tag yourself in the comments.

It’s feels like a great time to remind everyone that we…

⏰ Open everyday 11-11

☕️ Serve great coffee using @pinklanecoffeecollective @pedigreemilk and non dairy alternatives plus @teapigs teas

🔥 Have the fire on most days through winter

🛜 Have free super fast wifi

📖 Offer plenty of table space for daytime working

🥤 Stock lots of lo and no alcohol beers including a dedicated keg line, currently pouring @budvaruk

👶 Have baby change facilities.

🍻 Pour 22 lines of cask and keg beers from super modern hoppy beers to trad cask and heritage favourites.

🍾 Have a fridge full of cans and bottles, heavy on Belgian classics, lambic beers, and modern sour cans from the UK and USA

🍕 Have weekly food vendors including our regular Wednesday evening with @fireanddoughuk and Friday evening with @hakefoods

So whether it’s cosy afternoon pints, somewhere to work for an hour with a coffee, or maybe pints before a midweek match (😉), we’re here and ready for you :)

Hi.

This is a quick check in about the latest application for the Malmo and Spillers Quay development. This application has actually been live for nearly a month after resurfacing with no warning. We’d have been in touch with details earlier, however they’ve not been easy to come by this time.

There’s very little publicly available in the way of renderings or images, and what is available is pretty much inaccessible as the application will not load on the council planning portal.

To try and help with understanding the latest application we’ve put some information together in a newsletter which you can find in the link in our bio, or in your emails if you already subscribe.

The official last date for comments is this Thursday 17th April, though in practice the council will accept representations up until the committee meeting.

If you’d like to make comments to the council and are lucky enough to be able to access the planning portal you can of course make comments there.

Failing that the email address to use is…

Make sure to include the reference number 2021/2404/01/EIA

It’s important to remember that the council will only accept comments regarding actual planning policy areas, simply stating ‘I don’t like it’ is not enough. Areas around which comments can focus include…

- Layout
- Siting (where something is positioned on the site)
- Design and external appearance of buildings
access
- Highway safety
- Impact on the neighbourhood inc issues such as parking.

We’re continuing to see what further info or images we can get a hold of, and when we do we’ll make sure to share them. 3 Fonteinen
A Tribute to Armand

October 26th 2026 would have been the 75th Birthday of 3 Fonteinen founder Armand Debelder.

The brewery would like to invite you to celebrate his life in the best way possible, by raising a glass of lambic among friends.

To make this moment extra special, they have released ‘A Tribute to Armand’ a 7 year old lambic, matured in the Foeder beautifully engraved with an image of Armand and his father Gaston found on display in their barrel room

We’ll be joining forces with the brilliant Axis in Gateshead’s Railway Quarter, both pouring the special release with extra 3 Fonteinen treats available at both bars.

Yes it’s a Monday. This would have been Armand’s actual birthday so the brewery have organised events all across Europe to raise a glass
The beers will be pouring from opening at both venues.

Goodbye Jimmy Pickles 👋

Yes he left here a while ago, but this weekend James is leaving the world of hospitality for good after a brilliant couple of years managing @donzokobeer Taproom.

We couldn’t let the occasion pass without an embarrassing reel, so here you go!
