Students came together outside Baltimore City Hall this morning alongside @mayorbmscott, @zeke_cohen, @transportationalliance, @bettertransitnow, @4transitjustice, @sierraclubmd, @balt.pop to demand fair transit funding for the Baltimore region. Members of The Fund’s Student Transit Advocacy Cohort (STAC) were among 40 @baltcityschools students in speaking out against the proposed transportation budget cuts and sharing the critical role public transportation plays in their lives.

A special thank you to our STAC student speakers:
🔹 Izma Sheikh, a City Schools freshman, for sharing why reliable public transportation matters to students and how service disruptions affect their daily lives.
🔹 Justice LeGrand, a City Schools senior, for highlighting the importance of student transit advocacy and the changes needed to better serve young riders.
🔹 Jeremiah Carter, a City Schools freshman, for speaking about why transportation matters to Baltimore students and the importance of equitable transit investment.

For students, reliable transit means more than getting to and from school. It affects attendance, safety, access to jobs and extracurricular activities, and the ability to take advantage of opportunities across the city. That's why students are calling for transportation investments that meet the needs of Baltimore's young people and communities.

Thank you to the students and community who showed up, shared their experiences, and advocated for a transportation system that works for everyone.

We’re proud to see their advocacy featured in today’s @baltimorebanner story following this morning’s rally.

We rallied outside Baltimore City Hall this morning to demand fair transit funding for the Baltimore region with @mayorbmscott, @zeke_cohen, @transportationalliance, @bettertransitnow, @4transitjustice, @atulocal689, @atulocal1300, @sierraclubmd, @balt.pop and dozens of Baltimore City Public School students.

The draft state transportation budget cuts hundreds of millions of dollars from @mtamaryland critical safety and maintenance and provides $0 over the next 6 years to construct the Red Line or implement BMORE Bus.

At the same time, it provides expanded funding for the DC region and new highways across the state.

@govwesmoore says "For this to be Maryland's decade, it has to be Baltimore's time."

But his @marylanddot draft budget gives no time for Baltimore transit.

Earlier this year, City Schools students traveled to Annapolis to share how unreliable transportation affects their education and daily lives. Through The Fund's Student Transit Advocacy Cohort (STAC), they continue to organize and advocate for a transit system that works for everyone.

Tomorrow, ahead of the Baltimore City MDOT Capital Budget Presentation, Baltimore City Public Schools students, transit riders, and advocacy organizations will gather outside City Hall to call on the Governor to reverse the proposed transportation budget cuts and invest in reliable, accessible transit for Baltimore communities.

A new analysis from the @transportationalliance and @bikemorebmore examines the FY2027–2032 Draft Consolidated Transportation Program and what it means for the Baltimore region.

The findings include:
• A $362.7 million reduction in Baltimore transit funding over six years
• No construction funding for the Red Line through 2032
• No funding for the BMORE Bus Plan
• A 44% cut to MTA’s minor program, which supports essential maintenance and safety projects
• $605.3 million for three highway-widening projects, 6.4 times the funding provided for Red Line planning

For Baltimore students, transportation affects far more than the daily trip to school. Reliable transit determines whether young people can consistently get to school on time, participate in extracurricular activities, get to work, and access opportunities throughout the city. Join us tomorrow morning!

Special thanks to STAC member @justice.legrand for capturing the energy, urgency, and power of student and community voices in this video. by @thefundbalt
