Update:

Eid Mubarak by @thegambian

Happy New Years all!

The Malcolm Effect is probably the thing I’m most proud of. It is a diary of my intellectual journey. Me doing my learning in public. It’s a documentation of what I’m wrestling with and trying to work out. Along the way, so many of you have showed it so much love and I am truly grateful.

This project has been one in the making for quite some time. But I wanted to create something that could be easily read, shared and gifted as an introduction to radical politics. You will find answers from some of the most brilliant minds of our time alongside some reflective essays from myself.

This project is due to be out next summer but pre orders are now available. by @thegambian

This Monday, November 2nd will mark Black Solidarity Day. A day that follows a tradition of black political self determination and collective action. I was inspired by the 1960s Off-Broadway satire Day of Absence and begs the question “What if black people didn’t exist?”. Clearly, the answer is that society wouldn’t function. It was black labor that provided the initial surplus to bring about capitalism and it is black labor that has continued to sustain capitalism’s existence. The day brings to light the contradictions that under pin our world. This Monday we will carry on this tradition at New Canaan Baptist Church. Join us at 6pm! by @thegambian

Thank you to everyone who has supported us over the past year. We have been able to continue our work only because of your collective efforts❤️🇵🇸 by @thegambian

Comment PHD !

Following their pro-Palestine activism at Cornell University, Momodou and Amandla were forced to leave the US and now need our support to complete their PhDs.

They are raising £37,000 and have already raised £11,671, Alhamdulillah!

Having sacrificed so much for standing against injustice, now is our opportunity to stand with them.

Please donate whatever you can and share widely. May Allah reward you all! by @thegambian

Marxism is often written off in Muslim circles as a European import with nothing to say to an Islamic worldview, though the charge survives only a partial reading of Marx. His early writing did treat Europe’s path as the template everyone else would eventually follow, but by his later years, after months spent on Russia’s peasant commune, Algeria, Ireland and India, he had moved past that view and come to argue that a people’s road to liberation did not need to pass through Europe’s history to count.

The record did not end with Marx. Movements across the colonised world, Black radical thinkers, organised labour and women’s movements took his method and rebuilt it under conditions he never faced, leaving later generations a toolkit continually remade by whoever took it up rather than a text to be applied unchanged.

Islam already gives grounds to question that same empire, since wealth and power belong to Allah and are only ever held in trust, the earth and what it yields are His, and any order that turns creation into property and people into instruments has broken that trust.

This is where Marx and the prophetic message meet, in the demand that the oppressed be stood with and the false idols of profit and domination be named and refused. For a Muslim that demand needs no borrowed authority. It was written into the Quran’s account of wealth as trust and into a prophetic history of resisting pharaohs and hoarding merchants well before Marx turned to the question of empire, and reading his account of it today simply continues a demand the tradition was already making. by @thegambian

Let's send a loud message to Cornell University that 2+ years of harassing Amandla Thomas-Johnson & Momodou Taal, two migrant Black Muslim PhD students, for their continued solidarity and work towards Palestinian liberation is fundamentally wrong and must stop.

Our boycott campaign will continue until Cornell University reinstates the PhD funding for both Amandla Thomas-Johnson and Momodou Taal.

Stand with Palestine and Migrant Students!

HELP MOMODOU & AMANDLA FINISH THEIR PhDs 🎓

We’re raising $50,000 — $25,000 each — to help Momodou Taal and Amandla Thomas-Johnson complete their PhDs at Cornell University.

In 2025, Momodou and Amandla were forced to leave the United States after the Trump administration began targeting international students involved in pro-Palestine activism for potential detention and deportation.

They are now living in Cairo and continuing their doctoral work from abroad.

But there’s a problem.

Despite previously indicating that students unable to return to the US because of immigration difficulties could be supported from abroad, Cornell has told Momodou and Amandla that they must return to Ithaca and teach in person to receive their graduate funding.

For them, returning could mean risking immigration detention.

They should not have to choose between their safety and finishing their PhDs.

That’s why we’re asking for your help.

The money will help cover housing, food, healthcare, research and academic expenses while they finish their dissertations.

They have already spent years researching, writing and teaching.

Let’s help them cross the finish line.

If you can donate, please do. If you can’t, sharing this post and the fundraiser makes a real difference. by @thegambian

❗ IMPORTANT -- SIGN THE LETTER -- Link in bio.

Cornell University doesn't just have a problem with on-campus sexual assault. The university continues to harass Amandla Thomas-Johnson and Momodou Taal, two migrant Black Muslim PhD students, for their continued solidarity and work for Palestinian liberation.

As educators, students, activists, and the general public, it is our ethical and moral duty to show solidarity with Amandla and Momodou for bravely continuing to raise their heads above the pulpit as migrants in their refusal to cower before Cornell University’s deliberate harassment campaign against Palestinian liberation.

Captain Ibrahim Traoré, speaking on Monday at the opening of Raffinor-BF in Ouaga 2000, the first gold refinery Burkina Faso has ever owned.

“Producing in quantity is no longer enough. Extracting is no longer enough. Exporting our resources raw is no longer enough.”

Gold from Burkina Faso, he said, must from now on be processed, controlled, valued and certified inside the country. Natural wealth belongs to the people, and must serve their living conditions, the environment, social justice and the generations that follow.

“The wealth of Burkina Faso must first help build Burkina Faso.” by @thegambian
