NEW CHAPTER…

Warren and I sold our store last month, and since then we’ve thrown ourselves into reclaiming our home.

For the last 2 years, the store was beautiful, but our own home was chaos. I can’t tell you how good it feels to decorate my own spaces again.

The store is still thriving, and we are so proud of what we accomplished. It was a dream. We lived it, and now it’s out of our system.

In that time, our style evolved, and we made big changes around here. I love my house again. Fall shelf styling decor, vintage books, neutral fall decor, neutral shelf decor taken in Alabama by @thegatheredbarn

SHE SAID SHE SHED…

My husband calls it a labor of love.

He built every part from reclaimed materials - all but the brick came from @resurrectantiques

I call it a dream come true!

Spend a lot of time here with my friend, Jane Austen.

Any recommendations on books that are similar in style to Jane’s? I’m in desperate need of new material. by @thegatheredbarn

Love me some moody lighting. 🤎

My current packing strategy:

1) Pull out all decor and sort in 3 piles
( keep, sell, donate)
2) Decorate for fall pulling only from the keep
pile
3) Immediately undo fall decor and box it as a
vignette, so it can effortlessly be
reassembled at the new house.
4) Worry about the rest of it later

I can’t pull out all my toys, and not be expected to play with them.

Is this system efficient? No. No it is not.

Will I be grateful for it next month when I’m the midst of the chaos, my cozy fall vibes are ready and waiting on me? 100% Moody kitchen by @thegatheredbarn

BITTERSWEET…

As I attempt to pack up a house full of treasures, it’s been surprisingly easy to let go. We decided we were ready to be unburdened by stuff, and it’s been so freeing.

But preparing to let go of the She Shed has been tough. Not because of the space, or the incredible views, but because of the hard work and care Warren put into every decision to make it a reality. I’ll have another, but it’ll never be as dreamy and special as this one. It truly is a shed that love built.

The T in the bricks melts my heart every time. T ❤️’s WAS

Clearly the time for posting Summer Americana has passed, but as we pack up The Gathered Barn, I’m determined to post her past looks, and the videos, photos, etc. that, at the time, didn’t live up to my ridiculous standards. Looking back I can see that we loved them; they gave our guests joy - the ones who noticed anyway - and that alone earns them a place on my feed.

Gathering and collecting vintage seasonal goods makes every holiday magical. They make our home feel like a place to explore, because it rarely looks the same, and year after year, we get to rediscover some great finds.

So, pay no attention to the random, out of season, hodgepodge that may show up here in the next month.

Side note: ChatGPT has made me self-conscious about using em dashes. Apparently, it’s an AI hallmark. I’m an OG em dash user. Sometimes correctly, but sometimes not.

Also fun fact: “Take Me Home Country Roads” became the unofficial USA anthem of the 2026 World Cup.

LAST YEAR, LAST DAY, LAST TIME

It’s the last day for Christmas in July, and last year was the last time we’ll celebrate Christmas in The Gathered Barn.

In September, we’re moving to an 1890’s Queen’s Anne Cottage. She’s stunning, and I can’t wait to see her all dressed up in vintage Christmas decor.

DO NOT EVER…

refrain from coming to our house and asking a million questions about the million things we have lying around.

I want to tell you where it came from, what it was used for, the person we bought it from, why I love it, and why I’ll definitely buy some more in the future.

We vintage lovers have a passion for our collections, and talking about them fuels that passion. The stories are a huge part of the appeal.

Do you agree? Do you get as overly excited as I do when people want to hear the stories behind the things you love? Antique Decor Vintage Cloche with vintage ephemera styled in an eclectic dark academia vignette taken in Alabama by @thegatheredbarn

I AM LOVING…

This season. This summer. This time in my life. Warren and I have been empty nesters for two years, and we’ve settled into the most beautiful rhythm.

We’ve been watching lots of documentaries, playing cards, trying new recipes, working in the yard, lounging by the pool, dreaming of the future, and having endless conversations about all the things we’re still learning.

I am critical by nature. It’s something that I’ve worked on with varying degrees of success for much of my life, but as I was capturing moments in this space, I had no criticisms. Not because it’s without flaws, but because I looked around and was so grateful for the life we’ve built together.

It’s been a good summer.

Spring Style.

My spring style will always be crusty terracotta and loads of happy greens. Vintage seed boxes and garden tools? Don’t mind if I do.
