September reading wrapup 💚🪐

3 books
1027 pages

📖 Books read:
💚The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo 5⭐️
🪐 The Long Way to a Small Angry Plane 4⭐️
🐎 Off to the Races 4⭐️

A fab month of reading September was, I loved each of my reads and I have given into the fact that I won’t reach my reading goal but yknow what I’m alright with that! I’m enjoying taking my time and not stressing about meeting my goal- it can’t always be done and I have had a fairly busy year. I loved the mix of sci fi and romance reads and I discovered 2 new authors for me (Taylor Jenkins Reid and Becky Chambers)

🏃‍♀️ Running distance covered: 55km! 😦😱

Actually had to double check that! Has a mix of short runs going up to 11km- which at the time was the furthest I’ve ran in 3years!

I have the Yorkshire 10 mile on Sunday and I won’t lie I am nervous! 3 years have passed since I last did it and my fitness and health has changed since then but I have a goal and similar to my reading goal, not going to stress too much about it and enjoy the journey! And as my @milkboxyork coffee cup said to me last month: everything is figure outable 💞

QOTD: tell me a bookish/ non bookish highlight from last month or something you’re looking forward to this month!

Gee 🧡

🍂 🧡Autumn bookshelves are here! 🍂🧡

There are many things that I love about my new book book and one of them is having a seasonal shelf ☺️ I feel like this one may be my favourite yet!

Books displayed are:
🧡Rewitched by Lucy Jane Wood
🧡 Soul Searching by Lyla Sage (really looking forward to Free Falling!) @authorlylasage
🧡Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros
🧡 A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness

And I think on reflection I’ll add in a Sarah J Maas book seeing that A Court of Splintered Harmony is released this month! I may need to try and fit in a reread before the release date, but which ones are key and which can I scan read again, hmmm

QOTD: Tell me which books would go on your autumnal shelf?

Gee 🧡

Busy bee and memories of last week 🐝 📖 🍂 🌊

Currently reading:
The Barbecue at No9 by Jennie Godfrey p.16/388
Threshing Day by Rebecca Yarros p.135/204

Running distance covered 13km (+4km beach walk)

Really enjoying both of my current reads. The List of Suspicious Things was an amazing read which had me hooked so I’m excited to be reading a Godfrey book again! This time her latest book The Barbecue at No9 is set in the summer of 1985 with the characters about to watch Live Aid with each character being guilty of having something to hide…

What a week last week was! After a chilled start I went to Darlington to see J play with @floodsofspin for their debut gig @theforumdarlington which after set up and nerves out of the way, it went so well! Before the gig I was wondering what to do, so I passed the time reading a random book I found of course!

The rest of the week consisted of getting Threshing Day (eeek!), running just a small distance 👀😂, making blackberry jam and treated to brunch out and a lovely beach trip on Sunday where we met some very friendly cows! Trips to Robin Hoods Bay reminds me of that montage bit from Wild Child- anyone else remember it?! I’m really loving this time of year going out for walks, taking pictures and seeing the changing leaves for autumn and cosy walking too!

QOTD: what’s your favourite activity to do besides reading in autumn?

Gee 🧡

🩶🐉 The Empyrean Series🩶🐉

I am so excited to now have the latest addition to the empyrean series on my shelves— Threshing Day! Thirteen unforgettable stories and I cannot wait to get stuck into this book this weekend! Also a moment to appreciate the beautiful artwork that’s inside, my love for dragons in fantasy books started with Fourth Wing and it has only continued to grow and now having these illustrations as well, eeee!

This will definitely remain a spoiler free zone, I hope that for other readers like me we manage to keep avoiding spoilers and enjoy the book when we can get to it 🐉

And finally I have to share one of my favourite quotes from the series which I feel like I definitely need to have a reread of soon:

“There’s nowhere in existence you could go that I wouldn’t find you, Violence.” — Xaden Riorson

🫠🔥

QOTD: do you have a highly anticipated read upcoming? Or if you have also read the above series, share your favourite quote or moment in the comments below! ⬇️

#sundayshelfie & what a week it’s been ☀️ 🏃‍♀️ 🧁 📖 🎨

Well at least it’s certainly felt like a lot this week but stripping it back it’s been a good one. It all felt like it was going wrong at the start of this week and I wanted to throw in the towel buttt after taking a beat and reflecting back it’s been good and some lessons learnt!

Current read: The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo
Pages read: 97

Run distance covered: 23km
11k Saturday, 4k Wednesday and 8k today

Another book recommendation that is not letting me down is certainly Evelyn Hugo, I am captivated by her story and the ups and downs she has experienced. I’m interested to see how the link unravels between Evelyn and Monique who is writing her story.

Other positives of this past week include catching up with friends and planning our Christmas getaway (very exciting times!), read my book in a new coffee shop I found, beautiful sunsets, a sweet treat pickup from @blackwheatclub and a paint and sip catch up evening with a friend ☺️ Also me and J went on a walk around Castle Howard yesterday and I loved seeing the changing colour of the leaves, autumn is close now! Reminder to self: buy autumn book shelves decor!

Also been watching Great British Bake Off which is back on TV, what do people think of Nigella? I was sad to see Prue go but so far Nigella is doing great!

Looking into next week I’m looking forward to seeing J perform with @floodsofspin for the first time in Darlington and more steps to cover in my training plan!

❓QOTD: what are you looking forward to next week? Tell me your current read below and what you hope to read next!

My latest book obsession and memories that are bringing me joy from this past week 🥂✨

QOTD: Tell me the last book that you completely devoured!

Eek can’t believe I’ve finished Off to the Races in 3 days! Any Elsie Silver book I just speed through, I can’t help myself! Definitely a 4 ⭐️ read, can’t wait to read the rest of the series. I loved Billie and Vaughn’s relationship though I will say I think Billie has a closer relationship with the horse she trains (Double Diablo) compared to Vaughn, but I guess that’s the magic of animals.

Also still reliving memories from the nicest week off from work. Aside from catching up on my course, me and J had a date evening completing an interactive ghost scavenger hunt in York by @citydays.global 👻 which I would really recommend. I’ve done 2 of these now and even though I’m a York local it was a great way to see unknown areas of York to me.

And then the week was wrapped up by celebrating my cousins wedding to his fabulous partner. The weather was forecasted to rain but the rain did not come with the sun shining through which is a pure representation of my cousin and his partners personality ☀️ It was a fabulous day and was so nice to spend time with family and throw some shapes on the dance floor in the evening!

THEN A MAJOR MILESTONE I ran 10km, my furthest distance ran since my surgery! What a win!! Keeping it real I have posted a picture of me lying on our front lawn after finishing said run 😂

So overall a very quiet week off for me…🤣🤣 wouldn’t have it any other way!

Gee ❤️

Checking in on my TBR shelf 📚

Ooof this tbr shelf has grown a lot recently! I am trying to remain committed to it but I can’t help it if I see a book when I’m out and about! Looking forward to The Serpent of the Winnie of the Night and The Barbecue at No 9 for my September hopefuls, and I’m planning on reading my first Stephen King book in October for spooky month!

❓QOTD: which book/s are you looking forward to reading this month? Which book has been on your tbr the longest? Drop the name below and get feedback from others!

Having just finished The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet I have read 19 books this year! My goal is 40 (which StoryGraph likes to remind me I’m now 9 books behind!) but I’m enjoying my reading and not rushing through the pages and been enjoying other ways to not spend time on my phone such as latch hooking and my paint by numbers 🎨 😊

July + August reading wrap-up ☀️🍒 🌊
July:
The Inheritance 5⭐️
The Raven Scholar 5⭐️

August:
And Then There Were None 5⭐️
Piglet 2.5⭐️

Yeah so guess who forgot to do a reading wrap-up last month and this month 🙋🏻‍♀️ so time to play catch up!

Summer has just flown by and now September is here! I managed 4 books over July and August, there was potential for more but I was so invested in completing my latch hook cushion cover that my sister got me from @craft.club.co and I love how it’s turned out, isn’t it gorgeous!

Other summer memories are trips into nature and the beach, going to London to see Jesus Christ Superstar and Luke Combs, visiting Kew, seeing Scissor Sisters, making jam in our new home and a summer camp night away 🏕️

I’ve read a great mix of crime, thriller and contemporary fiction. I’m currently enjoying a sci-fi read and after that looking forward to reading some fantasy!

What a range! Even though summer isn’t over just yet…

QOTD: what’s been your summer highlight? Bookish and/or non bookish?

Gee ❤️

Camping 🤝🏻current read 🏕️

Look at this for a dreamy reading spot with a view! Throwing back to our lovely impromptu trip the other weekend to a campsite only a short drive away and having the cosiest evening.

Reading my book whilst out in the nature watching the sunset, it can’t get better than that!

I’m currently on p265/423 for The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet, I’ve only just started to have more time recently to dive deeper into this but I am enjoying the world building and relationships of the Wayfarer crew 🪐

QOTD: what are your plans for this weekend? Do you have much time for reading?

For me I’m looking forward to spending some time looking after my parents dogs, seeing J play some music 🎸 and I am hoping to fit some reading time in, but let’s see how it goes! Don’t weekends just flyby at the moment!

Gee ❤️

🔎 🩸 “One of us in this very room is in fact the murderer.” 🔎 🩸

And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Why I have delayed reading an Agatha Christie book for so long is beyond me because this one had me on the edge of my seat! 10 strangers invited to an island where then they discover there is a murderer amongst them.

I could not put this down, I just had to find out who the killer was! What was hauntingly eerie was the nursery rhyme, a copy left in each guests room and then 10 miniature figurines on the dining table which showed how each person would die.

I feel like this would be a perfect autumn read so if you are looking for a suggestion look no further.

QOTD: Are there any books you are saving to read in autumn? If so, what are they?

Gee 🧡

Throwback to a peaceful beach evening and a thrilling read ☀️ 🏠

Oh to be back having a beach evening watching the sunset, can’t believe how much time has passed since then! And what a fab way it would be to cool down today after 34 degree weather.

I feel like I have raved about this book on stories but it needs a dedicated post as I recently finished The Inheritance by @gemmadenhamauthorillustrator following meeting the author at The National Crime Reading Month event hosted by @criminallygoodbooksyork & @crimewritersassoc . I’ve not read Denham’s works before but this is an author now on my radar!

Book synopsis: After Patrick unexpectedly loses his job, he and Kate relocate with their young son, Riley to a Victorian townhouse Kate has recently found out she has inherited from her late aunt. Hoping for this to be a fresh start for the family, this quickly turns ominous as objects move or disappear, mysterious footsteps echo upstairs at night, and cryptic messages begin to appear. Finding no physical intruders behind the locked doors, Kate is left terrified and forced to confront whether the house is haunted, an intruder is hiding inside, or she is simply losing her grip on reality.

Reasons why I loved this book:

🔎 Fast pace with each chapter leaving you wanting more
🔎 Growing sense of unease and the demand for answers. Kate’s desperation for the truth is parallel with the reader
🔎 The mysterious element of the home. The missing objects or messages that appear
🔎 The desperation for the truth causes certain characters to lose their self with them turning into a person they are not, with them becoming scarier than the unknown.

The ending is not what I expected but was definitely satisfying. This is the best thriller I have read in a while, Denham has 2 standalone books currently: The Storm and The Inheritance and I am looking forward to reading The Storm soon!

QOTD: which book recently has had you on the edge of your seat?

Gee 💙
