Hey there! 👋🏾 Let me (re)introduce myself. I'm Melanie Matthews-Calhoun, and I'm so glad you're here. I'm the founder of The Get Engaged Coaching Group, where we help instructional coaches and educational leaders turn resistance into engagement and engagement into real, lasting results. Here's what you should know about me: ✨ I'm a three-time author (with another book on the way, Before You Ditch the Coaching Cycle, Coach with FLEXibility), and I write because I believe coaches deserve practical tools, not just theory. ✨ I created the Resistance Decoder™ Method — because teacher resistance isn't the enemy. It's information. And once you decode it, everything changes. ✨ I'm the architect behind several proprietary frameworks, including the B.U.I.L.D. Framework, P.O.W.E.R. Framework, and S.T.E.P.S. Leadership Framework—all designed to make your coaching work easier and more impactful. ✨ I launched ENGAGE 365: The Pathways Engagement Academy — a 12-month workshop series built around three pathways of engagement, giving coaches year-round support and community. ✨ I'm the creator and host of the Get Engaged Coaching & Leadership Con, where we bring together coaches from across the country to learn, connect, and grow. But here's what really drives me: I'm the coach's coach. I've spent years in the trenches of instructional coaching, and I know how isolating, overwhelming, and undervalued this work can feel. That's why everything I create is designed to honor your expertise, ignite your growth, and give you tools you can use tomorrow. Whether you're navigating veteran teacher resistance, designing professional learning that actually sticks, or trying to establish yourself as a coaching leader, I'm here for it. And I'm here for YOU. So stick around. Drop your word of the year in the comments. Let's build something powerful together. 💙 Melanie #InstructionalCoaching #EducationalLeadership #CoachTheCoach #TeacherResistance #GetEngagedCoaching by @thegetengagedcoachinggroup

#tbt 2 years ago this week, I presented at the @instructionalcoachinggroup TLC Conference in New Orleans. My session, Coaching Teachers Who Don't Want to Be Coached, was standing room only. What an amazing conference! Not only did I have the honor of presenting, but I also met some of my favorites in the industry. This experience was like no other. The learning, leading, and linking were unmatched. I feel privileged having been asked to speak here! 😊 #InstructionalCoaching #GetEngagedCoaching #EdLeadership #ResistanceDecoder by @thegetengagedcoachinggroup
Supporting teachers with program implementation being the guide on the side, not the judge and jury! If you, your school, or your district are looking for impactful support, DM me, and let's talk about how we can partner! Happy Monday! by @thegetengagedcoachinggroup
Happy Friday!!! I just had to share my feel-good moment with you. It's more to instructional coaching than classroom support (e.g. modeling, co-teachin, etc.). It's also what you do on the backend (prepping, organizing, scheduling, etc.) that leads to effective and impactful coaching. This is my Felton feel-good Friday story. I wasn't to hear yours. Tell me in the comments! by @thegetengagedcoachinggroup

It's not the students. It's not the teachers. It's not the school. It's the system! If you're an instructional coach or leader, you've all had these days! Those days when you're charged with a large project, you proceed, it's almost done, and then it's changed. Those days when you're given a major task with minor resources. Those days when you put forth tremendous effort to do things just right, but they're wrong. Those days when you plan the best grade-level meetings and the subs don't show (or pulled for other reasons). Those days when you need a moment to breathe, research, and process your thoughts, but you can't because you have to account for every minute on your schedule. I can go on and on, but I'll stop here. You get the picture. Systems can make or break a coaching program. When mandates come down with little to no guidance or communication, coaches can feel frustrated and unsupported. And when there's no collaborative time, coaches feel like they are working in, you guessed it, silos! Systems are big and sometimes reactive. This causes stress on school leaders and coaches. I help schools and districts navigate this space. Let's talk. Hey, coach! If you skip building relationships to "save time," you're not coaching faster. You're coaching worse. If you're "too busy" to build relationships before diving into instruction, you're not ready to coach yet. Districts love to hand coaches a caseload of 20+ teachers and a pacing guide of "get to everyone by October." So coaches skip the relationship-building phase and go straight to feedback, because the system rewards speed over depth. But relational and trust science isn't a nice-to-have step you check off. It's the foundation everything else stands on. Skip it, and you're not coaching faster. You're coaching worse, just more efficiently. If your system is pressuring you to skip trust-building, that's not a "you" problem; that's a systems and structures problem worth naming to your leadership. Coaches, how do you protect relationship-building time when the calendar is working against you? by @thegetengagedcoachinggroup
