At the heart of the Glover Memorial Hall is culture, art and tradition. Built in 1887, and named after the Governor of Lagos colony, Sir John Hawley Glover. The Glover memorial hall stands as a beacon of culture and tradition of Lagos State.

Joke Silva shows us their craft — @thegloverhall , Lagos Island. Built in 1887 and named for Sir John Hawley Glover, colonial governor of Lagos. In 1903, at Herbert Macaulay’s invitation, it hosted the first film screening in Nigeria.

Hubert Ogunde staged early Nigerian theatre inside these walls. Pre-independence political gatherings convened here. Now under stewardship of Joke Silva and @lufodo , the hall returns to what it was built for. Terrazzo floors, colonial proportions, high ceilings, an open-air terrace — the structure holding largely as it stood in the 19th century. Bookable today as a theatre and exhibition space. Lagos’s oldest theatre, still in use.
