Twice Booker-shortlisted author Tim Winton returns with ‘Songs From the Firefront’, a true and tender new memoir in essays.

For nearly half a century, Tim Winton has been singing the lives and loves of ordinary people. It’s hard to think of a contemporary voice more widely trusted, or a writer whose cultural reach extends so far from the conventional confines of the literary world.

In these deeply personal reflections, he’s still asking himself big and urgent questions.

Songs from the Firefront is a book about the sacred fragility of existence. Full of rage and laughter and mourning, it’s a celebration of friendship, a call for solidarity and a testament to the deep joys and sorrows of family life.📚 by @thegrumpyswimmer

Great read for Halloween! 🎃

Spooky Ladies is a wildly entertaining and sharply insightful celebration of the clairvoyants, mediums, mind-readers and magicians’ assistants who dazzled audiences, scandalised sceptics and carved out lives on the fringes of polite society. by @thegrumpyswimmer

Children’s read for the last day of October! 🦇

There was once a bat who didn’t like the dark but kept that fear deep inside. Then one night, lost in the dark woods, the bat meets an owl who guides the bat home. Along the way, they encounter the magical sights, sounds and fellow creatures of the night as the bat comes to see that sometimes it’s in the darkest night that all the stars shine extra bright… by @thegrumpyswimmer

New Elif Shafak book in store just in time for the weekend! 🔥

Spanning decades and continents, from revolutionary 19th century France to Istanbul, Egypt and Beirut, it is a profound meditation on creativity in times of political crisis and war, asking what literature can hope to offer when the world feels broken.

Building a fascinating bridge between Western prose and Eastern poetry, this story offers a luminous portrait of the life of an iconic writer, Gustave Flaubert, author of Madame Bovary, told through the lives of the women – both real and fictional – who shaped him. by @thegrumpyswimmer

Huge thanks to Jason Kimberley for coming by yesterday to sign copies of his new book The Chook Book! 🐓

On a sunburnt Australian farm, deep in the outback, a ruthless pecking order dominates the chook shed.

At the heart of this kingdom stands Reginald the Greatest Cock to Ever Live. A glorified alarm clock, a mad over-pecker of lower-ranked chooks. Resplendent with a crown-comb, an inflated ego, a talent for humiliation and a bloodstained stump he calls his throne.

Surrounding Reginald are his flock of sycophants, dreamers, schemers, philosophers and poor bastards searching for scraps, dignity and hope.

Darkly funny, gloriously rude, viciously sharp and uncomfortably familiar, this is the modern-day fable for our times. A tale about power, ego, fear and the dangerous moment when an entire system is pushed to the brink. by @thegrumpyswimmer

A peek behind the curtain for garden lovers! ⛲️🪴

Into the Garden features more than 40 private green spaces normally inaccessible to the public, inviting readers to immerse themselves in dreamy landscapes and stunning vistas.

From Umberto Pasti’s intimate garden in Tangier, a haven of local flora, and a Long Island oasis by British designer Arne Maynard, to a romantic rose garden in Dorset created by the owner with Isabel and Julian Bannerman and a terraced Mediterranean garden for a family in Ibiza designed by Juan Masedo, the featured gardens represent diverse styles, environments, scales, and locations. by @thegrumpyswimmer
