If we can simplify the concepts we’re trying to implement into our golf swing the motions become much easier to understand and easier to repeat. Many of you are trying to do too much and the swing becomes overly complicated. If you can create a circular motion on an inclined plane around your body with the clubs sweet spot (think of a hula hoop sitting at an angle) and then create the proper motion and forces through the ground and with your pivot that’s the nuts and bolts of your swing.

At this point it comes down to managing your path into the ball, clubface at impact and where and how you strike it on the face. I use these drills every day in my lessons and it creates ah ha moments for people at how simple the motion becomes.

Not all skills in golf are learned best with a club in your hands. If you have a hard time hitting the ball solid practice these drills and it will help you learn the skill of delivering the sweet spot onto the golf ball.

I find that when people get their pivot and ground forces working properly their overall motion greatly improves. People focus too much on the club and struggle with the motion because the driving force which is the body isnt moving properly. When I’m working on changing movement patterns in the body, I start off doing it without a club. I find people feel the change better and by engaging the proper muscles the movement becomes easier.

When you do these exercises the first time, you’ll notice your core is engaged, you’ll be using different muscles and you’ll feel way more pressure and power coming from the ground and your feet. Another benefit is you’ll be strengthening the right muscles and you’ll be able to feel the difference much better than if you were swinging a club. A little bit of work/practice in this way will go a long way into changing your movement patterns.
