“A visit to Marrakech was a great shock to me. This city taught me colour”
- Yves Saint Laurent

Saint Laurent relaxes in the garden of his, and his partner Piere Bergé’s home, ‘Dar Es Saada - The House of Happiness,’ in Marrakech.

Saada is neither a French palace nor a local, Arab one.
“The last thing I wanted was a Palace,” Saint Laurent said, “I wanted a real house - a home I could come to any time of year, without any baggage, find all my own things, and then just settle in.”

“I can swim, loll on the grass, or putter in the garden - as I’ve grown old, I’ve
become a putterer.’ Indoors, everything at Dar Es Saada is laid out with an order
in which I can safely deposit my disorder.”

This image was part of a series that Horst took at ‘Dar Es Saada’ for an interiors piece that was published in the August 1980 edition of American Vogue, with words and interview by
G Y Dryansky.

Gloria Vanderbilt.

Ms. Vanderbilt was photographed by Horst throughout her life, not only modelling the fashions of the day, but also the interiors of her various homes

In this image Gloria Vanderbilt wears a late-day costume: a short white silk matelassé dress, sleeveless, bell-skirted; over it, a black cashmere coat that can be worn closely buttoned in the street or taxi, opened indoors to reveal a lining of the same white matelassé.

This image appeared in the December 1959 addition of American Vogue.

It has been a great pleasure working with Jeremy King, Shane Brady and the team at Brady Williams, on Jeremy King Restaurants ‘The Park London.’
The elegance of the interiors, and the curation of the art, has created a slice of ‘Mad Men’s’ America on the edge of Kensington Gardens.
