You survive each week, but that’s not living. On Sunday evenings, you lie awake knowing you’ve got to do it all again tomorrow. Not because you don’t know how to do your job. Because you don’t want to go back to being the version of yourself who’s drowning. You’ve done the therapy, the mindset work. You understand the pattern…yet nothing has changed. Because talking about it doesn’t change how your body feels. Your nervous system is doing exactly what it’s supposed to do. It’s protecting you, it just doesn’t know the threat is over. The Human Method teaches your body that stopping is safe, that rest won’t take you backwards. That you’re not losing your ambition just because you don’t want to run on adrenaline anymore. You don’t have to survive your success. #thehumanmethod #thesootheprogramme #nervoussysyemhealth Photos: @etiennephotography by @thehumanmethoduk
You slammed the door this morning. Not because you’re failing. Because you’re holding everything, again, and your body finally ran out of steam. You snapped at your child over nothing. You cried in the bathroom before the meeting. You lay awake at 2.30 am listing everything you’ve got to hold tomorrow. And the worst part? You know exactly why you’re doing it. You’ve read the books. Done the work. You understand the pattern. But understanding it hasn’t changed how your body feels. This is what most advice misses: you don’t need more tools to manage the stress. You need your body to learn that stopping is safe. The Human Method rewires your nervous system so you can meet life with flexibility instead of fighting yourself every step of the way. You don’t have to survive your success. DM me HELP if this is you right now. #thehumanmethod #thesootheprogramme #nervoussystemflexibility #highfunctioningwomen by @thehumanmethoduk
You pretend you’re fine. And everyone believes you. Because you are fine, you’re holding the job, the business, the family. The life everyone thinks you want. You’re just doing it on an empty tank, surviving each week, waiting for the moment you’re allowed to stop. Except that moment never comes. Because your body learned that stopping equals danger. This is what most people don’t understand about high-functioning women: you’re not struggling because you can’t cope. You’re struggling because your body treats coping like survival. Most advice tells you to manage the stress better. The Human Method teaches your body that stopping is safe, that rest won’t take you backwards. You don’t have to survive your success. DM me HELP if you can’t keep living like this. #thehumanmethod #thesootheprogramme #highfunctioningwomen #nervoussystemhealth by @thehumanmethoduk
The eldest daughter learns early that being good means fighting on every front at once. She fights the system while seeking approval from the very people upholding it. She’s told to lean in, speak up, take up space, then blamed when her body can’t sustain it. The cost of living rises. Crimes against women increase. Wars continue. Inequality grows. And she’s handed another self-optimization tool to manage what the system created. Her nervous system doesn’t distinguish between threats. Deadline, difficult conversation, mortgage, caregiving, it reads them all the same way. Which is why she wakes up at 4am still thinking about what she said in the meeting. She wasn’t built wrong. But her body is still keeping the count. And knowing why doesn’t change how it responds. Free masterclass: Why your body can’t switch off even when nothing is wrong. I love women and think we should run things, it would be good for men too. Women bear the brunt of policy, after all. Which is exactly why I run a piece called If I Were In Charge, where I interview brilliant women with something interesting to say and ask them the question nobody in power seems to be asking: what would you actually change? This month, it’s @rosiejnixon Rosie spent years as Editor in Chief of HELLO! before walking away from success on paper to build it on her own terms. Now she coaches, runs reinvention retreats, writes novels, and champions the radical idea that pausing isn’t procrastination, it’s self-leadership. If she were in charge, the first thing she’d start with is to introduce mandatory rest and recovery protocols in every workplace. To read what she’d change next, comment NEWSLETTER and I’ll send you the link. What I love about Rosie’s answers is that none of them are about individual women trying harder. They’re about changing the conditions. Which is the whole point. Read the full conversation including her recommendations on a book, podcasts and TV. She’ll be joining me for a substack live on Friday 6 th November at 2.45 pm, link in bio or comment NEWSLETTER and I’ll send you the link. #thehumanmethod #thesootheprogramne #hellomag by @thehumanmethoduk
Most high-functioning women I work with have done years of therapy, read the books, understand their nervous systems better than most practitioners. And yet…they’re still living in a body that won’t switch off. Because insight doesn’t rewire anything. It just makes you more aware of the patterns of behaviour you’re still in. The work that actually changes how your body responds? That happens through the body, not around it. If you’ve done all the cognitive work and you’re still waiting to feel different, this is why. Watch my Masterclass to understand what’s going on AND feel the difference. I keep noticing this thing with high-functioning women. They can hold everything. And then they try to rest, and their body won’t let them. They sit down. The to-do list starts running. Chest tightens. Mind won’t stop. They feel restless, guilty. So they get back up. Because sitting still feels worse than staying busy. Here’s what’s actually happening: when you’ve been running in activation for months, years, your body starts equating action with safety. Stopping means everything collapses. So when you try to rest, your nervous system doesn’t read it as relief. It reads it as danger. That’s why you can’t stay sitting down. It’s not that you’re failing at rest. Your body hasn’t learned rest is safe yet. The good news? Wiring can be rewired. You just need a practice that teaches your nervous system a different response. Consistently. Inside Soothe, we work on this together. Weekly content on the platform, plus live fortnightly sessions where I’ve got my eyes on you. That’s where I can see what you can’t see yet. Where you’re struggling, resisting, still over-efforting. Unpicking that is what changes how you respond in your life. If you need help now to start now DM me HELP - if you want to find out more, watch my masterclass, includes a practice so that you can feel the shift. You’re not failing at rest. Your nervous system has been running in activation for so long that stopping feels like a threat. It equates rest with danger. Stillness with falling behind. When you try to rest, your body doesn’t recognise it as safe, it recognises it as exposed. That’s not a you problem. That’s a wiring problem. And wiring can be rewired. This is the work I bring to wellness hotels, spas, private members’ clubs and brands. Not stress management workshops where people leave with good intentions and nothing that actually shifts. Not relaxation sessions that wear off before they’ve made it back to the office. Nervous system rewiring. The kind of work that changes how the body responds, not just how the mind thinks about it. The people who come to these sessions are high-functioning. They’re used to managing everything. And what they discover is that their bodies have been treating every demand like a threat for so long, activation has become their baseline. We don’t add another technique to manage that activation. We interrupt the pattern underneath it. I guide them into experiencing what it feels like when their brains work with their bodies instead of overriding them. When effort drops away. When safety becomes the default, not something they have to perform. That shift, from understanding what’s happening to experiencing something different, is what makes this work land. One 90-minute session doesn’t rewire years of activation. But it plants the seed. It shows them what’s possible. And for many of them, it’s the first time they’ve felt their nervous systems actually settle in months. If you’re a wellness director, spa manager, programme lead or a brand looking for workshops that create genuine shift rather than temporary relief, get in touch. I work with hotels, spas, corporate wellness teams and private members’ clubs. Thank you @sixsenseslondon for engaging me in a series of workshops, I’ll be holding one-to-one clinics there soon, watch this space! #thehumanmethod #thesootheprogramme #nervoussystemhealth #highfunctioninghumans by @thehumanmethoduk
What if you’re not broken, you’re just wired to survive instead of live? Your nervous system decided a long time ago that stopping means collapse. So now, slowing down doesn’t feel like rest. It feels like danger. That’s why you can see the breakdown coming and still can’t stop moving toward it. You’re not choosing this. Your body is. But the wiring can change. If you can see exactly where this is heading and you’re ready to rewire it, DM me HELP. by @thehumanmethoduk
Bella’s story isn’t unusual. What’s unusual is that she’s finally ready to do something about it. Most women wait until the collapse actually happens. Until their body forces the stop they refused to make voluntarily. Until the irreversible damage isn’t just a phrase their doctor used, it’s their reality. Bella can see where this is heading. That’s why she’s ready now. If you’re in that same place, where your body has been telling you to stop for months and you’re still overriding it, where you can trace the line from here to breakdown and you know exactly what happens if nothing changes, this is your moment. Not because you’ve failed. Because you’re still standing and you want to stay that way. DM me HELP and let’s talk about what happens next. Your brain is keeping the score and your body is the scorecard. But this can change. #thehumanmethod #thesootheprogramme #highfunctioningburnout #highfunctioningwomen #nervoussystemhealth by @thehumanmethoduk
You're not getting another course. You're not getting another app. And I know what you're thinking: you've tried body work before. The breathwork app you used twice. The yoga class that felt good in the moment but changed nothing. The progressive muscle relaxation you abandoned after week one because it felt like another task on the list. None of it stuck. Not because those things don't work. Because they were asking your nervous system to do something it hadn't learned how to do yet. SOOTHE is different. You're not following a script. You're learning to read your own signals, the tightness in your jaw at the laptop, the breath-holding when someone asks you for one more thing, the bracing when you sit down and your body still won't let you stop. You're catching those signals before they become the crisis. And your nervous system starts to recognise that stopping doesn't mean danger. That's why it sticks. Because it's yours. Twelve weeks. Self-paced or private sessions with me. DM me HELP and I'll send you the details. Your brain is keeping the score and your body is the scorecard. But this can change. #thesootheprogramme #thehumanmethod #nervoussystemsuoport #highfunctioningwomen by @thehumanmethoduk
