New school, new shirt, same inscription, same God.

A month since I started a new academic phase @columbia with a new shirt; same inscription but a different shirt.🥹 Do we like it?

Postcard from week 1 of school.
After being teased with information about the Columbia classroom, my mind was getting ready to experience it.

Most classes were introductory and understandably so, but what I did not expect is the rigour of shopping classes.

#Columbiauniversity

Shopping classes is exploring the classes you are interested in for the sake of getting in ( if you are waitlisted) or deciding if you want the class or not based on the class content and the teaching style.

The flexibility is beautiful but also stressful; especially if you are waitlisted and really want that class to ensure you stay full time.

You can tell I take more architectural pictures.

The class structure and content is also different to me. There is a lot of readings; pages that are humanly impossible to read, but I am learning to know when to read, skim and glance over.

On Friday, we had the club fair and I was looking forward to seeing the different clubs on campus but sadly, I couldn’t attend. I’m hoping to find a club that aligns with my interest before the end of the semester. But if not, we move.

Postcard from Week 0a and 0b of school.

Weekly Student’s diary is back!🥳 But this time, make it Ivy League edition. 🥳

I just finished my first week at my Ivy League school- @columbia @columbiags and how did it go?

PS: the slides and captions would be unrelated and related to the picture

The answer to the question would be incomplete if I don’t start with Week 0a (Jumpstart) and Week 0b (Orientation). The past 2 weeks before this have had me learning the systems of the school and how to set myself up for success in Columbia

The transition from a community college (and pretty much any other undergraduate school) to an Ivy League school is not easy, and Columbia knows it. Jumpstart and Orientation at GS did a great job in ensuring the transition wasn’t overwhelming.

A convocation? Yes pleaseeeee. It’s the same thing as matriculation elsewhere.

The Academic Resource Center did this for 4 days. Insightful moments that demystified or, better still, clarified how the Columbia classroom works and why it works that way. These sessions also equipped us with the resources and mindset needed to excel here.

A prestigious place like Columbia has many structures, which means many resources and, in turn, a lot of information. It can be hard to find them, and they did a great job introducing us to the resources available to me. As a student who is always on the lookout for resources available, this was definitely a great one for me.

- Graduation gift displayed in the place I dared to believe.

Ultimately, The GS school and Columbia understand the needs of its students and the new world we are stepping into, and they have built the right systems to ensure we are set up for success through Jump Start and Orientation.

This included having live classes, taking tests, doing assignments, taking lectures and seminars, and readings all handled by professors. All this was a demo but make it real. I felt and got acquainted with the Columbia classroom even before the first day of classes.

Tote bag for 8 days and my shoulders couldn’t handle it anymore. How are you people doing it?
