I owe myself an apology
For all of the times
I tore myself apart

When I neglected my own needs
Lowered my standards
Berated myself
And put myself down.

For the self-sabotage
I continually inflicted upon myself
And the times when I apologised
For being who I was
And expressing myself authentically.

And I owe myself
The permission to start anew.

To forgive myself
For the battles I fought
That weren’t mine to fight
For all of the love
That I failed to give myself

And for the times when I failed to realise
That rather than being broken
I was worthy of value, respect
And beautiful, brilliant things in life
And that how I treated myself
Dictated how others would view me
And in turn, behave towards me
So by showering myself
With love, kindness, forgiveness and respect
In turn, I could pave the way
For others to do the same.

I posted the following (*) on May 20th, 2023…
Not a day goes by that I don’t think about you...
You never stopped loving me since the day we met…
You passed from this Earth 5 days later and I have missed you since…
Until We Meet Again…

*We met in my junior year of high school, All-State Chorus Competition. It was puppy love from Go. We spent every moment together, holding hands, cuddling, kissing…it was a Diabetic Coma.

Competition Ended, she went back to Jacksonville, me back to Ft Lauderdale….

We talked ever moment we could get, worked my ass off to pay the long distance bill, we wrote letters to each other and we held on to that All-State Romance as long as we could.

One day, her letter came with a ring…and a proposal. We thought we were in love, and her parents were having nothing of it. The harsh break drove us both to dark places as we lost touch.

Fast forward to MSD…and she found me about a year later and reached out. We reconnected in an amazing way as friends and we’d check in from time to time.

I told of my life, my marriage, my divorce, my father’s passing (she met him at All-State) as she had fond memories of him.

She shared that she never married, had a falling out with her parents before they passed away within weeks of one another…and how she was sick and it wasn’t good.

We bonded over holistic treatments but she was in stage 4 so it was about quality of life and her Bucket List Top 10….

She called a few weeks ago. Wanted to talk. She had a request. The Bucket List was 4 away from completion…and if I would consider helping with one.

This afternoon, I drove to Naples to meet her as she was on her way to a place in the keys. She is going there for her final days. At 5:20pm, in a private spiritual service, Diana and I exchanged vows.

This is not legal or binding…it is Love…beyond platonic but not romantic….Just Love. We shared a few moments before her childhood friend (also her driver and our minister) got Diana into the car and off to the Keys. She is going there to die in peace. These are her final days.

I swore I’d never marry again. This time, this very last time, it gave a friend some peace.
