Bring a Trailer has arrived in the UK, and if there was any doubt about how seriously it is taking the British market, its display at Bicester Scramble should put that to bed.

An eclectic collection of seriously interesting machinery, gathered under one roof. Proof, if any were needed, that BaT is about rather more than buying and selling cars online.

There are cars you admire from a distance. Then there are cars you want to live with.

The Aston Martin DB12 S is undoubtedly the latter.

@frankelandrew takes delivery of the DB12 S in Q Ion Blue for an extended stay. First impressions are strong, but the real question is what it will be like once the launch day glow has faded and real world miles begin to add up.

Will the looks ever lose their impact? Can a car this wide, powerful and beautifully specified work on narrow country lanes and everyday journeys? And are £85,000 of options ever worth it?

A morning made for driving!

Our track day at Bicester Motion brought customers and cars together for plenty of time on circuit. Early damp conditions added another dimension to the experience.

Our very own racing driver @carmsracing joined us in her JBR-branded racing MINI, while @theintercooler shared in the action and met owners.

From lightweight sports cars to some very special machinery, it was a morning spent enjoying great cars as intended.

A huge thank you to Carmen, The Intercooler and everyone who joined us.

Bentley’s first electric car is here, and it’s not a Continental or Flying Spur with a plug added. The Torcal is an all-new, five-metre SUV, designed, engineered and built in Crewe, and it becomes the fourth model line in the range.

It’s the shortest four door that Bentley makes, and that might hint at some sporting intentions. Indeed, Bentley claims it rides like a Flying Spur and handles like a Continental GT Speed. How?

It’s the first Bentley with fully active suspension. There are no anti-roll bars, and the dampers do all the work, backed by rear-wheel steering – it’s essentially a Bentley tune of Porsche’s Active Ride system, so don’t be surprised if it has a bit of the Cayenne about the way it goes down the road.

The headline numbers: up to 876bhp and 996lb-ft, the most torque of any Bentley ever made. The S does 0-60mph in 2.8sec, and the standard model in 3.3sec. It has a 113kWh battery and up to 375 miles of WLTP range.

Bentley says it deliberately stopped at 2.8sec because most customers find harder acceleration uncomfortable. This is rare for a manufacturer to admit, and Ti would welcome any sign of restraint in the EV horsepower war.

We do also have to mention the sound. Instead of a synthesised engine note, Bentley recorded real musicians on drums, viola and bass guitar, inspired by the rhythm of the 6¾-litre V8. Andrew Frankel experienced it from the passenger seat recently and thought the V8 representation was both impressive and tasteful.

Inside, there’s a world-first 100% Merino wool fabric woven by Fox Brothers of Somerset, and the physical controls have been kept (cue the party streamers).
