Years ago I helped my parents gut renovate a 1965 ranch that still had its original shag carpet. I suggested wool. They chose nylon in a similar color.⁠

One round of revisions per phase. That’s the boundary.⁠

One for conceptual design. One for detailed design. Anything beyond that adds time, adds money and starts to unwind your entire process, let alone design integrity.⁠

My husband and I lived in NYC 25 years ago. Luckily, we were on vacation when the towers came down. We were in a daze of disbelief for the rest of the trip. ⁠

The area was still smoking when we landed back in the city 10 days later. We walked down to the tributes and let the tears fall. ⁠

There was a quiet unification of New Yorkers at that time. A feeling that we were all going through this together. ⁠

For this collection with Scout & Nimble, I picked what I'd put in my own home. Texture, a mix of styles, fur, wool and metals with real patina. Layers until the room has depth, not just objects in it. Candlelight that flickers. A sense of place. That's the effect I'm always building toward.⁠
