IWP Alumni Spotlight: Inspired to serve after the 9/11/2001 attacks, David ('10) completed his M.A. in Strategic Intelligence Studies at IWP and went straight to the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency.

Today, he is an Imagery Analyst providing geospatial intelligence support to the warfighter. Over his career, he has deployed for a total of two years, supporting U.S. and partner forces and training local security forces.

He says his IWP education gave him a head start in analytic rigor, critical thinking, and the moral courage to defend an unpopular call with solid evidence. In his words, "You get people to trust you by results."

On September 21, IWP's IAFIE student chapter welcomed retired FBI Special Agent Peter Lapp to discuss his book, “Queen of Cuba,” and the investigation that led to the capture of Ana Montes, the highest-ranking Cuban spy ever arrested in the United States.

Mr. Lapp shared how Montes avoided detection for 17 years while working as a senior DIA analyst, and why investigators moved to arrest her just ten days after 9/11. The event marked the 25th anniversary of her arrest.

IWP Alumni Spotlight: With a solid career in business and technology, Michael Limongello (’25) came to IWP to pursue a personal interest in international affairs.

What he found was an education that further honed his writing skills, enabled him to assist his clients more effectively with international decision-making, and opened the door to a senior advisory role with the Permanent Observer Mission of the Holy See to the United Nations.

In addition to his diplomatic work, Michael serves as Executive Director for Advanced Technology at Teague, a century-old design firm based in Seattle that has been designing vital elements of Boeing airplanes for the last 80 years. Recently, Michael has been working with clients on the design of humanoid robots, helping determine how they should look and how to account for human psychology and power dynamics.

One of the accomplishments he is proudest of in his professional career has been his partnership with firms that have gone through transformative product cycles, including Panasonic, Very Technology, and Teague. He has helped his clients mitigate risk and bring products to market.

Michael credits IWP’s online M.A. program with helping him develop professionally while also building meaningful connections within the IWP community.

Can Taiwan really deter China?

Record defense spending only tells part of the story. Weapons still have to arrive, munitions have to be available, and military capabilities have to translate into credible operational deterrence.

IWP Broadcast Correspondent Olivia Fanders sits down with China expert and IWP Professor Dr. Christopher R. Lew to examine Taiwan’s defense readiness, weapons acquisition delays, industrial capacity, cyber threats, cognitive warfare, and the strategic pressures shaping the Pacific.

Watch the latest IWP News Update to hear what credible deterrence could require in a rapidly changing security environment.

Twenty-five years ago, our nation was shaken by the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

Having stood the watch at the Pentagon the night before, IWP President Chris Glass, Sr. lost eight shipmates who were still on duty the next morning.

At IWP, we do our utmost to prevent surprise attacks like this by preparing leaders with the skills and wisdom they need to anticipate threats, prevent conflict where possible, and protect our nation when deterrence fails. Today, that mission remains as important as ever.

On this 25th anniversary, we remember the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, and all those whose lives were forever changed. We honor those who served and sacrificed in the years since and remain committed to educating leaders in national security, intelligence, and international affairs.

We will always remember. We will never forget.
