Detroit, the absolute magic that just went down at Aretha’s Jazz Café is nothing short of legendary! The Music Mavens of Michigan Songwriter Showcase was beyond incredible.

Gathering a powerhouse lineup of women songwriters to share their raw, original music in a classic round format is easily one of the greatest shows the city has seen in a long time.

From the very first note, the room was captivated by pure storytelling, elite vocals, and unmatched craftsmanship. This is the heart and soul of the Detroit music scene—real, unfiltered art taking center stage at @arethasjazzcafe in the historic @musichalldetroit

Let’s make sure we keep this exact same energy alive and continue to support, lift up, and follow these incredible artists:

• 🎤 Caitlin Cusack
• 🎤 Jacki Daniels
• 🎤 Ali McManus
• 🎤 Taylor Walls
• 🎤 Cara Jean
•🎤 Nopesetic

Detroit always shows out for the best, and these women delivered a night we won’t forget. taken in Aretha's Jazz Café by @thejackidanielsshow

I like to imagine Dolly and Kenny are singing this up in heaven. “When Saint Peter opens the gate and you come walking in, I’ll be there waiting for you…Cause you can’t make old friends” 🎶

Being given the opportunity to pay tribute to my idol is a dream come true. When people tell me I do her justice and she would be proud I could die 😭💜

This song is extra special because I feel like it speaks to my journey with Alan Turner too. I’m the veteran of the band going on 9 years singing with him and we’ve been through so much together. You can’t make old friends 💛

You can tell it’s still a challenge getting through this song I wrote for my dear friend Mays ❤️‍🩹🙏

Mays was the best of us. He had the biggest heart and knew how to have fun no matter the occasion. He was the glue to a huge friend group and all who knew him can still feel his absence even after all these years. I still find myself thinking “Mays would’ve loved this” whenever I’m on an epic adventure or immersed in the Austin music scene. “I will love you through our dying days and come what Mays” 🏴‍☠️🤍

If I had to pick 3 songs to send someone who is going through it, I’d send these 3. Together they have a powerful message. That’s why I put them in a song!

This is my song about songs! It’s about a man who lost his wife of many years but still makes coffee for two. I think it’s a meaningful one. But take a deeper dive into the three songs that inspired it. Why did I pick these three? What am I trying to say?

Look for my 4-song playlist on Spotify. It’s easy to find. Listen and ponder. You’ll be a better person for it.
