☕️ “It’s August. Why am I talking about Thanksgiving and winter break?”

Because if you’re co-parenting, now is actually the time to start talking about the holidays.

If you already know there may be a disagreement about Thanksgiving, Christmas, winter break, or holiday travel, don’t wait until November to figure it out.

Here’s the part a lot of parents don’t realize: what feels like an emergency to you may not necessarily be treated as an emergency by the court.

And even if you need court intervention, your judge may not have immediate availability. You could be looking at weeks, or even months, before you get a hearing.

So if you know there’s going to be an issue, address it early. Talk to the other parent, review your parenting plan, consider mediation, and if necessary, get legal advice before the holiday is right around the corner.

Because the holidays are predictable.

Court availability isn’t.

If you anticipate a disagreement with your co-parent about holiday timesharing, now is the time to address it, not when the holiday is days away.

A holiday dispute may feel like an emergency to you, but that doesn’t necessarily mean the court will treat it as one. And your judge’s calendar may not have room for an immediate hearing.
