Let me introduce myself — I’m Jana, and I’ve been making art for as long as I can remember.

Then I did the sensible thing:
a design degree, ten years of corporate ladder climbing, and the classic line we all told ourselves early on… ‘there’s no money in art.’

I don’t regret it — the grit I earned there is the backbone of my studio now.
But it fed the bills, not the soul.

So here I am – stepping off the hamster wheel and building an art studio younger me would’ve squealed over… and hoping that your email will never ever find me again.

If you’re here, thank you.
You’re part of this messy and ever evolving saga – and I can’t wait to show you what I’m creating next.

Instinct and intuition, both run in parallel but are not exactly interchangeable. One allows us to make decisions based on our inherited biology whilst the other is a judgement based on our biology at that moment in time.

Both spark the question of free will. Both work together. One commonly ignored by the masses, or maybe both. But we always know when we’ve done ourselves a disservice by not listening to it. Like our bodies’ way to tell us, ‘I told you so’.

Fascinating how cells multiply and create a life or plants grow and structure incredible networks. Emergence, unapologetically doing its thing in full swing.

I paint with both, instinct and intuition, a tug-of-war between intention and unpredictability. Something that I can’t explain but just do. Emergence takes a turn on the canvas, which brings this piece from me to you.

The far North Queensland studio has been packed up. The new pieces are ready to be scanned in.

Is the collection finished? Maybe not yet. I still have some pieces manifesting themselves to life in this red.

Have I already started thinking about my next collection? Absolutely. These renovations feel never ending when all you really want to do is make more art.

Sign up to my emails to be the first to know when new art drops 🖤 I can’t wait to share it with you all x

I would always rather live in the second bucket 🖤

Amongst the hell that is called renovating 🫠

Speaking of, it’s all the little things we sometimes forget to appreciate. Life is honestly magic, even when it’s hard. I try to take in all the little moments.

Going back to Pinterest mood boards to create, well, a mood.

Ok but how cool are black holes?!

Since life is magic it was only appropriate that we watched ‘The Island of WITCHES’ by Horses, a mini doco into Icelandic witches and the occult.

Thanks for coming to my TED talk (I also love those). taken in Townsville, Queensland by @thejanasaga
