My buddy Joe pulled back the curtain on the wild west days of Pride FC. 🥊 Pride's contracts actually had a clause where they explicitly said they do not test for PEDs.

It's one thing not to test for PEDs but wait until you hear what else they told me.

Pride was raw, real, and totally unfiltered. But did it make the fights more epic or cross the line? Drop your thoughts below. 👇

Long before I was a therapist and wrapped a PhD, I participated in a different type of "therapy". One of the more physical sorts. Never sought out to be an MMA fighter but that's the road life led me down for a while.

First fight was in 1998. Last 2008.

It really is one of the ultimate lemons to lemonade stories. I got into martial arts because I was dealing with bullies in sixth grade. That led me to Brazilian jiu-jitsu and eventually MMA.

Had it not been for those bullies I never would have ended up hosting 'Human Weapon', traveling the world, meeting amazing people, like my brother @wbduff50 .

It's crazy to think that the 20-year anniversary is coming up next year.

Fun Fact: I signed a contract with the UFC and have my debut fight at UFC 60 (Gracie v Hughes) vs Spencer Fisher, but en route training for that fight, the pilot for HW was green lit into a series. I wasn't sure which direction to go, but my good buddy @joerogan made it clear "Dude, you're a smart guy, if you don't have to fight, don't fight"

Leveling up with 2 more stripes.

I’ve been lucky enough to know Renzo for 30 years. He’s not just my coach and mentor — he’s truly my friend.

We’ve shared times and laughs in countless cities, states, and countries, and no matter where we are, he always greets me and treats me like a brother he hasn’t seen in years.

There must have been 120 people at his seminar yesterday and I wandered in in a t-shirt and shorts He stopped everything to run over and give me a big hug when he spotted me. Because that's who he is.

Renzo is the kind of man who lights up every room with his smile and heart, and I love this man to death. I’m proud to represent RGA and carry forward the legacy of what he’s built.

Single leg X escape to my favorite modified (death) guillotine.

Don't fight the legs. Fight the structure. Weight over him, drop your base, hand on the shin, big step back.

The entanglement dies the moment it stops owning your balance.

The highest percentage chance you have of a clean neck bite is in a positional transition.

Once I back step I leave space for my opponent to come to his knees in search of either a single or turtle.

I keep my left arm ready for the grab and punch through under his neck deep in that transition.

Once I have a deep bite I don't go for the traditional guillotine I go reverse palm grip elbow up along his spine.

This inversion grip feels awkward at first but once you lock it up, it is nearly impossible to escape from as the typical path to defend is taken away.

As I bite the neck with my right choking arm I place my shoulder as deep over his neckline as possible which lessens the chance of his head slipping out.

Once the bite is on and my hands are connected, I PULL his neck into myself and create inward pressure, not extending away. That is where guys lose the position.

The knee across the belly aids in managing distance as well as acts as a wedge for him.

The leg over the back precludes the most common escape which is to front roll forward.

However even in the case where people front roll, or I miss one of the legs, as long as your inversion grip is deep and right arm elbow towards the ceiling and over his back, this is death by delivery.

Master this guillotine and you'll never go back to the old school one again.

This is a new modification for an old move. The Achilles lock turned into a half foot lock.

This rendition is a very high percentage and reduces the ability of your opponent's natural defense of "booting" the foot, while simultaneously creating more breaking pressure. By repositioning the legs. taken in São Paulo by @thejasonchambers

When I first started training jiu-jitsu, Brazil was almost this mythical place. For years, my friends and I talked about making the trip down here, stepping onto the mats, and learning from the people and culture that helped shape the art we loved.

Never in a million years did I imagine that my first time in Brazil, instead of being the student, I'd have the honor of teaching.

Jiu-jitsu has been such a huge part of my life. It's given me friendships, opportunities, experiences, and memories I never could have imagined. In so many ways, it's helped shape the person I am today.

So to come to Brazil, a country with such a rich history and deep connection to this art, and have the opportunity to share a little of what I've learned over the years was genuinely special.

There's something pretty incredible about an art that can take you around the world, connect you with people who don't even speak the same language, and make you feel like family the moment you step on the mats.

After everything jiu-jitsu has given me, having the chance to give even a little something back, especially here in Brazil, means more than I can really put into words.

To everyone who came out, trained, shared some laughs, and welcomed me with open arms, obrigado de coração. Truly an honor.

What a beautiful thing this jiu-jitsu journey has been. 🇧🇷🥋

Had to push my inner fat kid out the door and hit the workout today. I've learned it's better to show up 50%, consistently, then try to blow out 100% inconsistently.

Fun fact: the @rayban meta glasses can't handle the Florida heat. Things keep overheating.

20 years of friendship, a lot of miles, and somehow @bryancallen is still one of the funniest guys I know. Great seeing my brother do his thing at the Miami Improv.

I’ve been lucky enough to be called a lot of things in my life.

Fighter. Actor. TV host. Son. Husband. Friend.

But the best thing I have ever been called is Dad.

And that is the one title I know I have to earn every single day.

Not by being perfect.
Not by having all the answers.
Not by pretending I always get it right.
But by showing up.
By being present.
By listening.
By apologizing when I fall short.
By protecting their hearts, not just their bodies.
By becoming a1% better and more worthy of them every day.

Ben, Declan, Danica, and Grayson, you are all my "reason why".

Out of everything I’ve done in my life, nothing has mattered more than being your dad.

And nothing ever will.

He earned his first belt last week, and now he’s 100% convinced he can take on any adult in the room. 😂

But jokes aside, seeing my 5-year-old on these mats hits a lot deeper for me. 30 years ago, I started Jiu-Jitsu for a reason a lot of us share—I was getting picked on and bullied in grammar school. I needed a way to protect myself.

Decades later, I’m realizing the mats gave me so much more than self-defense. Jiu-Jitsu builds your self-worth, teaches you discipline, refines your balance, and introduces you to a global family. It changes how you carry yourself in the world.

I wanted to get him ahead of the curve. Long before he ever has to deal with a bully, he’ll already have the self-esteem and confidence to stand tall. Sharing this legacy with with him at Renzo Gracie Pembroke Pines is easily my proudest achievement on the mats.

Jiu-Jitsu is so much more than just learning how to choke people out. For those who train, what is the biggest lesson the mats have taught you outside of the actual fighting? Let me know below! 👇

At 46, I have accepted that I am not 25 anymore.

My joints have filed several formal complaints.

But I’m all natural, down from 220 to 191, and finally found the routine that works: cardio, weights, better food, less ego, and boring old consistency.

I used to train like an MMA fighter. Now I train like a dad who wants to stay strong, sharp, and hard to kill while still making school pickups and PTA meetings.

Dad bod is getting redefined.
