The way I look at people when they say “the #lindsayclancy trial was about determining either guilty or not guilty by reason of mental illness” knowing I’m about to give them an intro lesson to the way the United States’ justice system works

If anybody is interested, there were 5 possible verdicts to this trial: first degree murder, second degree murder, manslaughter, not guilty by reason of mental illness, and not guilty (aka an acquittal). Lindsay Clancy pled not guilty. She has no written or recorded confession that was presented in this trial. She pled not guilty. Most of the prosecution’s case was based off of testimony from Patrick Clancy. In my opinion, there are a lot of details in the state’s case that just don’t make sense. The case appears to have been poorly investigated. Lindsay was arrested 24 hours after the murders while still in a coma, solely based off Patrick Clancy’s statement. The “powder” found at the scene was not tested. It was determined based solely off of (you guessed it) Patrick Clancy’s testimony/statement to police. I feel like the list could go on and on. While I can’t say with absolute certainty that Lindsay is innocent (because I wasn’t there), I can say based on what the prosecution presented during the trial, she should have been found not guilty. Some people will try to portray the one holdout juror as a “hero standing for what he believes in”, but that’s simply not the case. According to notes sent by two separate jurors, the holdout acknowledged reasonable doubt but was refusing to apply it. That is illegal and should be treated as such. This mistrial was deeply disappointing. Thank you for coming to my ted talk 😇 taken in Las Vegas, Nevada by @thejessbabe
