Just added✨ Taniai Seitaka Awadachisou-zome #11 was handmade by the Yoshioka family in the mountain village of Taniai in Kochi Prefecture. The sheets are made from 100% Japanese kozo that was cooked with soda ash, hand-beaten and dyed with locally foraged natural materials such as clay, barks, and plants. Noriutsugi was used as formation aid, and the sheets were dried on wooden boards. The intimate size and organic appearance of this washi make it truly special. “Seitaka Awadachisou-zome” means dyed with Canada goldenrod.

Works well for printmaking techniques such as silkscreen, relief, and collograph, as well as stencil and collage.

New in! Tamba A4 is a lovely small sheet (A4 size) with deckle edges, handmade using 100% Chinese kozo. Moderately absorbent, it’s excellent for wet media, relief printing, silkscreen and even shows good potential for intaglio.

Ai Kozo is one of our precious handmade, solid colour washi made with 100% kozo fibre. Because of its labour-intensive process and the cost of raw materials, many papermakers discontinued making solid colour washi, and sadly, this beautiful paper is no exception.

“Ai” refers to indigo in Japanese. This sized paper is excellent for covering books, box making, painting, drawing, and printmaking.

New in ✨ Surikomi Brushes
Surikomi brushes are thick, round brushes traditionally used in stencil dyeing to apply and blend colour.

Black brushes are made with deer hair and are stiff enough to be used for mokuhanga. Red brushes are made with horse hair and offer a softer touch.

Handles are made from a single piece of split bamboo. No metal parts are used in their construction.

New in✨ Katazome Memo with Replacement Pad

Katazome-shi is washi printed by hand using katazome, a stencil dyeing technique developed in Kyoto for kimono textiles and adapted in the 20th century for printing paper. The vibrant, long-lasting colours are achieved using soy-based pigments and aids.

In early 2025, the renowned katazome-shi studio Wazome Kogei ceased production. These memo pads, covered with their treasured katazome-shi, carry timeless reminders of this beautiful craft.

Kagagampi is a premium gampi paper crafted by successive generations of papermakers in Kaga, Ishikawa prefecture.

This distinguished paper has been used for official government documents and backing sheets of gold and silver leaf, because of its impeccably smooth surface and remarkable resistance to deterioration. The sheets are formed on a bamboo screen covered by a shya, a finely woven cloth, that creates a distinct textural watermark.

Great for calligraphy, drawing, and a wide range of print techniques, including intaglio, lithography, and wood engraving. Heritage Washi.

Kurotani 88 is a Heritage Washi handcrafted in Kurotani, Japan's oldest papermaking village with over 800 years of history.

This robust sheet is dyed with fermented persimmon juice, known as kakishibu, giving it a distinctive and natural hue, as well as a sizing effect. Excellent for most media such as drawing, painting, and printmaking.

Kurotani 56 Suji-iri is handmade in Kurotani, the oldest continuous papermaking village in Japan, where they have been making paper for over 800 years.

100% Japanese kozo fibre with the inclusion of chiri (kozo bark bits) and turquoise blue fibre, this washi has a pleasing "organic" look. It is also strong and absorbent, making it suitable for all printmaking techniques. Heritage Washi.

Arame (meaning “rough look”) refers to the unique texture of this paper. Each sheet is formed on a special laid screen, with a fine mesh placed between the wet layers, creating a distinctive, fabric-like surface.
