My editor’s notes are imminent, and I am handling the anticipation with all the grace, dignity and emotional stability of a caffeinated squirrel.

SEND MORE COFFEE OR HELP. Or the NOTES!!! Preferably the notes. 😂

✨ From imagination to ink and paper. 📖

There are moments in the journey of writing a book that make you stop and realise just how far you’ve come. This is one of them.

After years of worldbuilding, countless drafts, late nights, rewrites, and more cups of coffee than I care to admit, The Atlas of Forgotten Things has arrived in print for the very first time! 🥹

Not quite the finished book you’ll one day hold in your hands, but something equally exciting: my first physical manuscript, ready for the next chapter of its journey.

After three months of painstaking work by my editor, this weekend marks the beginning of our next adventure together: diving into the developmental and line edits, challenging what needs challenging, polishing what deserves to shine, and making sure this story becomes the very best version of itself.

I won’t pretend that patience has been my greatest virtue throughout this process. 😂 But I’m learning that writing a book and making a book worthy of being read are two very different things.

And the magic, it seems, is in the making.

Here’s to the red ink, the hard conversations, the little breakthroughs, and the beautiful, occasionally brutal business of bringing a story to life.

One step closer to opening the doors to the Six Reaches. ✨

Hi everyone!

So many exciting things are happening behind the scenes as The Atlas of Forgotten Things moves through the final stages before publication.

This book has been a huge labour of love, and one I have funded independently from the beginning. I’m incredibly proud of how far I’ve brought it, but I’m now at the final and most important financial hurdle: getting the finished book over the line and ready to meet its readers.

There’s no sob story here, and no expectation. In a world where it is incredibly difficult to get a publishing deal, I have had to outsource the most crucial parts to professionals who can help an indie author gain a real chance at success: A very real dream that I’ve worked incredibly hard to make happen, and a moment where a little help from the people around me could make an enormous difference.

So I’ve opened a BackaBuddy campaign for anyone who would like to help bring The Atlas of Forgotten Things into the world.

If you can contribute, thank you. If you can share the campaign, that matters enormously too. And if all you’ve done is follow this slightly mad journey of mine from “I think I’m writing a book” to “oh good grief, I’m actually publishing one”, then thank you for that as well.

Every bit of support gets this debut epic fantasy novel one step closer to the finish line.
And I really, really want to see this book out in the world.

I can finally put a date on it. ✨📚

THE ATLAS OF FORGOTTEN THINGS
Book One of The Keeper’s Cycle
Estimated publication date: 15 December 2026

What began as an idea, then became a world, then a manuscript that completely took over my life, is finally making its way towards publication.

This December, the gates open.

The Atlas of Forgotten Things is an epic fantasy about memory, power, forgotten histories, the stories we inherit, and the dangerous things that happen when the world begins to remember what it was taught to forget.

Written by Clayde Baumann
Cover art by the wonderful Salem Beiruti

Available through Amazon KDP, in paperback and on Kindle, including Kindle Unlimited.

There is still work to do before we get there, which is why I’m calling 15 December our estimated release date. But for the first time, the finish line is close enough to see.

And I cannot wait to put this book into your hands. 🗝️

March 2020: furloughed, no salon to go to. A small flat in London and days with nothing in them.

So I started writing about a world that honours and celebrates some of my most beautiful memories and life lessons. Five years later, it’s the beginning of an epic fantasy series and this is @salembeiruti one of my favourite artists bringing my first cover to life.

Full cover reveal in November 2026. Your support in making this fantasy epic that brings #lgbt protagonists to the fore will be greatly appreciated and valued 🙏 @thekeeperscycle is the home of this story 🪄

I’m watching my book’s face get drawn for the first time. ✍️ Five years of writing this story and today I got to watch someone else see, and pencil it first… one slow steady line at a time. This is @salembeiruti’s process for the cover of my first novel, The Atlas of Forgotten Things. Due for pre-order on Amazon on 1 November and finally launched on 1 December 2026. I was quite emotional seeing the city of Halveren come to life through someone else’s eyes. Drop a like, comment or share please. It will help with the greater reach of the book itself.

Every writer is, in some way, a conversation between the stories they grew up with.

These are some of mine.

From Garion’s journey in The Belgariad, to Ged’s quiet wisdom in Earthsea, Pug’s impossible horizons in Magician, the grit of Night Angel, and the unforgettable fellowship of Dragonlance… these worlds didn’t just entertain me. They taught me what wonder felt like.

Years later, I somehow find myself preparing to release a fantasy novel of my own.

It’s a strange, humbling feeling to realise you’re no longer only reading the books that shaped you… you’re trying to write one that might one day shape someone else.

To every author who unknowingly handed a younger version of me a map to impossible places: thank you.

My name is Clayde Baumann and I am a debut author.

Every Epic Fantasy Needs a Guardian

Louis has taken up position in front of The Atlas of Forgotten Things as chief manuscript guardian, quality-control inspector, and very committed obstacle to all productive page-turning.

Meanwhile, inside the pages: a young cartographer is mapping places no one else remembers, a drowned city is waiting to be found, and an immortal keeper is running out of ways to stop the world from forgetting itself.

Louis’s official feedback so far: more snacks, fewer late nights, excellent use of duvet.

The Endless Work //

Before the maps failed, before the roads began remembering places that no longer existed, there was the Skein.

And somewhere beyond the reach of ordinary sight, he still held the line.

There was supposed to be nothing beyond the hills.

No road.
No settlement.
No name waiting at the edge of the map.

But Kaelen has never trusted empty spaces.

A first glimpse into The Atlas of Forgotten Things — Book One of The Keeper’s Cycle, an epic fantasy about lost roads, impossible maps, and the things the world forgets on purpose.

What would you do if the map was wrong?
