It’s crazy how a shoe can look simple and still take hundreds of decisions to get right.

We start with a good sketch, but it’s really the development of the last, heel, sole, upper pattern, materials and construction that set the tone for how the final shoe looks, fits and feels.

With this style, a lot of the development came down to proportion. Thong sandals are very particular when made correctly. We tested the shape of the thong, placement and width of the straps, how the foot sat inside the shoe, the pitch of the heel and the shape of the sole. There were many iterations. Adjustments of only a few millimeters, but on a shoe, a few millimeters can completely change the silhouette.

I love how technical the process becomes when building a new construction. The finished shoe is the glamorous part. This is the part I love.
