The Salary Bump. Former CHRO. I was on the other side of the table. Now I’m on yours.

I spent years in the room most people never see.

Building comp structures. Deciding who got the raise and who didn’t. Watching brilliant women say yes to the first number every time, because nobody ever told them there was a second one.

That’s not a talent gap. That’s a knowledge gap. And I have the knowledge.

So I left the seat that only worked for the company and built one that works for you.

The Salary Bump. The Career Bump. The Exit Bump. Different rooms, same truth: you were never meant to be a passenger in your own career.

If you’re sitting with an offer, a raise that never came, or a quiet feeling that something’s shifting at work, that’s exactly who this is for.

You haven’t peaked. You’re just getting started. 🔑 #salary #knowyourworthladies #career #careeradvice by @theklshaw

Almost nobody loses an offer by negotiating.

The fear is real. The risk is not.

It comes from your story about money.

Scarcity whispers that you need this job too much.

Homework and practice are what quiet it. by @theklshaw

Turns out, selling cars to pay for college was also my first negotiation masterclass.
The second you give away your number, the other side has information they didn’t have 10 seconds ago.
And information is negotiating power.
Before you answer, “What are your salary expectations?” ask yourself:
Why am I giving them my number before I know theirs?

Proof that rest and ambition can live in the same life.
So many high achievers treat time off like something they’ll get to later. After the promotion. After the raise. After everything’s done.
But from years of sitting in the rooms where careers get decided, I can tell you this: the leaders who went the distance protected their energy. They rested on purpose, and they came back sharper for it.
And here’s the part most people miss. Your PTO is part of your pay. Leaving it unused is leaving money on the table, and when you’re negotiating an offer, more time off is often on the table too.
Rest isn’t a reward. It’s part of the work.
Save this for the next time you feel guilty booking the days. taken in Italy by @theklshaw

Your career is one of the biggest financial assets you’ll ever own. Treat it that way.

Loyalty is lovely. It is not a compensation strategy.

The company will always know what it can afford before you know what you’re willing to ask for.

You do not need to be 100% qualified for the job. I promise you, plenty of people applying aren’t.

Stop waiting for someone to notice how hard you’re working. Make sure they understand the value of what you’re doing.

Ask about the money. Ask about the title. Ask about the equity. Ask what success looks like. Ask who actually makes the decision.

A “no” is information, not humiliation.

Your boss can be a wonderful human and still not be the right person to build your career around.

Sometimes the smartest career move is staying.

Sometimes it’s leaving.

And sometimes it’s negotiating the hell out of the space between the two.

You’re allowed to want more money and more life.

You’re allowed to change your mind about what success looks like.

And perhaps the biggest one:

Nobody is coming to hand you the keys.

At some point, you realize they were yours the whole time.

54-year-old me would have liked 34-year-old me to know that.

What would you go back and tell yourself? by @theklshaw

Berkeley 2024: women now negotiate more than men.

They still get told no more often.

That gap is information.

We are not talking to each other about money.

What does a VP here make? What is the equity worth?

Ask for more. Just don’t ask in the wind. by @theklshaw

Most people prep for interviews by memorizing generic answers. That’s why they blank under pressure.

Here’s what actually works: find your mic drop moments. The specific times you moved a number, fixed a mess, or changed an outcome. Not your responsibilities. Your results.

Your career already has the proof. Go find it and say it out loud.

Save this for your next interview prep. 👇 by @theklshaw

She saw her own job posted on LinkedIn.

$95,000 more than she was making.

She applied. She quit.

Doubled her salary somewhere else.

We were told never to talk about pay at work.

That silence is part of the pay gap. by @theklshaw

SUIT YOURSELF
November 11 | Michael Andrews Bespoke

And this one is very personal.

@michaelandrewsbespoke is where I have my suits made. They know what it means to put something on and immediately stand a little differently.

@priyancarao is my photographer. She’s the woman behind the lens who knows how to capture me looking and feeling like me, and she’s sponsoring the event and professional headshots for every guest, a $250 value included in the night.

These aren’t random partners I found for an event. They’re people I trust with how I show up in the world.

And now I get to bring you into the room with them.

We’re bringing the conversations that hit hardest in Minneapolis to NYC…plus one more:

@ginnypriem on permission and the capacity to say no.

Me on worth, knowing it, naming it, and negotiating for it.

@arirosmarin on presence and image, making sure the outside matches who you’ve become on the inside.

Come glammed up!💄

You’ll leave with real connections, a richer network, more clarity on what you’re worth, and a look that matches it.

And because we want this to feel like a room, not an audience, there are only 35 seats.

Tickets are $197.

Ticket link is here. Grab yours before they sell out! by @theklshaw

A check for $42,000 arrived before day one.

My dad said don’t cash it.

It wasn’t a mistake.

I never negotiated that salary.

Nobody told me I could.

It taught me what I believed I was worth. #knowyourworth by @theklshaw

Before I picked up my camera, Keri-Lynne Shaw and I spent two hours talking about the rooms she has been in and the people she wants to help walk into them with confidence.

After more than 20 years in executive HR, Keri-Lynne knows how compensation decisions are actually made. Now, as the founder of The Salary Bump, she puts that knowledge directly into the hands of professionals who are ready to recognize their value and ask for more.

Her work goes far beyond salary. She teaches people to think about the entire package, from bonuses and equity to healthcare, coaching, and the terms that can shape their lives long after an offer is signed.

During her Legacy session, I wanted the photographs to show the full woman behind that work.

We moved from sharp tailoring and a BMW steering wheel to denim, red heels, balloons, and money flying through the air. Keri-Lynne brought authority, humor, movement, and so much personality into every frame.

She reminded me that expertise does not have to look serious all the time to be powerful.

She is one of the 20 women I am photographing for Legacy. Her legacy is already taking shape each time someone enters a negotiation understanding their worth and leaves with a future that reflects it.

Keri-Lynne, thank you for trusting me with your story. Photographing you was every bit as bold and fun as it looks. ❤️
