Slow decorating our custom home, hanging with my dog and letting @kohvinteriors do the hard stuff | Canada

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Since moving into our home in January, I’ve been embracing the idea of slow decorating. Choosing fewer, more intentional pieces that feel timeless, are made with quality materials and will stand the test of time.

This gifted Refillable Marble Candle System from By Two Fields checks all those boxes. Made from natural Afyon Calacatta marble, each vessel is one of a kind, with its own unique veining and character. Available in two beautiful colourways, Viola Calacatta and Light Calacatta (the one I chose), it’s a piece that blends seamlessly into our home no matter the season.

What I love most is that the vessel is permanent. With a reusable silicone liner and interchangeable 9 oz candle refills, I can welcome a new seasonal scent without replacing a piece I already love.

The candles are hand-poured in small batches in Belmont, Ontario, using coconut-soy wax and premium phthalate-free, paraben-free fragrances, with approximately 40 hours of burn time.

For fall, I chose Mahogany & Pumpkin. A warm, sophisticated blend of spice, rich woods and soft vanilla that makes an afternoon in the kitchen feel that much cozier.

A little reminder that seasonal decorating doesn’t always have to mean bringing more things into your home. Sometimes it’s simply finding new ways to enjoy the pieces you already have.

Thankful I basically has two years to choose a lot of details for our home.

As someone who has a hard time committing and not getting tired of decisions, these are things I know I love and would choose again.

What’s one thing you absolutely love about your home?

1 year ago we were building our third house and now we’re soaking up every minute of summer from our favourite home yet.

Even if it means they sit empty while said items are being used or in the dishwasher.

I used to treat my shelves, yes even the open shelving in my kitchen like a Pinterest board, a little shelfie always ready for its next Instagram picture.

Now they are used for items we grab almost daily — my husband’s favourite glasses that used to sit on a shelf I couldn’t reach in the cupboard, our $3 plastic stemmed cups for drinks by the pool, a second hand cocktail shaker for our margaritas that felt a little more chic than the Yeti shaker I was using, a pitcher to fill our Smeg with water and extra serving boards that don’t have a home in a drawer.

Top shelf is none of my business though, I can’t reach anything up there without a stool.

Any other home “creators” trying to make their homes more functional and less ready for the next aesthetic photo?

Also adding avocado oil to my grocery list.

Comment “Fish” if you would like a link to this setup, it comes with a cork, but of course my dog ate it.

Taylor elevates our olive tree onto a low wooden stool beside the tub, a subtle shift in placement completely transforms the room‘s atmosphere. 🕊️

Realizing how absolutely uneventful my life is most days and I kind of love it.

Getting to spend time in the home Dan worked so hard to build is the dream ✨

I wasn’t joking when I said I was slow decorating our home.

Some of you caught a glimpse of our living room in my stories and complimented the feature wall which is actually our fireplace tile.

How silly of me not to share the hard work that went into the space all because the shelves sit empty.

Obsessed with my bathroom tile choices, but I quickly realized it was lacking colour and knew it needed some greenery.

This gifted Faux Olive Tree from @lyersetree is the first step in the right direction to bringing some colour into the space.

They have multiple heights and different style trees available on Amazon.

🪴Shop my home through the link in my bio, or comment “Olive Tree” and I’ll send it to you.

Main bathroom so far

👀On the look out for a rug, floor length mirror and a couple small pieces of art and some big plants.

The heated floors and heated toilet seat are my favourite part.
