Slide 1 was me, 2 years ago, after landing a job as a social media manager at Café One/Sterling Bank. I knew I didn’t want to be just a social media manager- I wanted to be in marketing, but I had just finished my Masters and film school, without a clear source of income. Social media manager was better than nothing. So I took the opportunity to hone my skills and take on as much marketing tasks from my manager as possible. 3 months in, he was telling our group head that he could leave anything in my hand and it would get done. A year later, I had achieved my 2022 dream of writing a viral Easter copy - it got named the best of 2025. I had crossed everything I wanted off my list, and started asking myself “what next?” This is how Cold Open Lab @coldopenlab was born. Slide 2 is me speaking as “Co-founder, Cold Open Lab” at a Cafe One masterclass for creators, a year after resigning. One thing I always preach to young people I speak to (~ imagine me saying “young people”), is to go through the process. I knew all the marketing theories in my head, but application only made it possible to build something beyond me. Cold Open Lab has served clients across different industries and in different continents. There’s no rush. Learn and grow. Most importantly, there’s the One who sends and backs up. He recognizes the dignity in labour and will crown your efforts with success. This is to also say that I am open to more engagements within and outside Lagos. See you soon. #Doxology by @thekongeire
